Supergirl Comic Box Commentary - Anj
Dec 01, 2020When you have a book with a cast the size of the Legion, you need to keep up and catch up on all of them. We have 4-5 distinct settings, groups, and plots in this issue. Nov 24, 2020The Positives definitely outweigh the negatives. Legion of Super-Heroes #11 is one of the best issues of the run, so far. The series has a real chance if it continues to move in this direction. Despite some questionable characterizations that don't provide an affability with these versions, there's enough here to be excited about. Nov 25, 2020In this series, the art and inks continue to be gorgeously rendered by Ryan Sook and Wade Von Grawbadger, respectively. The multi-plotted complexity of what hints at a Darkseid presence, coupled with long-delayed revelations concerning Rogol Zaar and Mon-el's background, suggests that there might be something worth waiting for in the future. Just don't hold your breath. Bendis has proven he has no qualms disappointing readers, whether by aging up a fan-beloved Jon Kent, screwing up Young Justice, or squandering a yearlong Superman storyline that began with Man of Steel. 'Hope' no longer springs eternal in the present DCU. Here's hoping that the future holds more promise. Read Full Review

Dec 03, 2020Okay, okay, not completely done. There's one more issue before the series goes into Future State that I'll begrudgingly pick up just to see if there's anything there worth hanging onto. But I suspect in a post-Future State world we're going to have Bendis writing the series when it picks up again and that will not have me coming back to it. As much hope as I had at the beginning, this is one of the worst writer/book pairings that I've seen in decades. Read Full Review

Bendis's LoSH continues to be beautifully illustrated and frustrating. Most of the ideas here are halfway decent (except for bring back Rogol Zaar, no one cares about Rogol Zaar) but there's three times as many of them as a 23-page book can reasonably balance and the end result is that most of those ideas have to be related in infodumps and there's no way for a reader to really connect with any of them. I honestly believe this could be a good book, but it's desperately in need of a strong editor to force Bendis to focus. As it is, this comic reads like a tweaker sitting on the bus next to you chattering about the plots of the half-remembered comics of his youth.

I know I am too giving with that 2, but it at least kept SOME Of my interest and Ryan Sook's art is immaculate as always. THAT SAID-I am so done with his Legion run. Brian REALLY wants us to believe that Rogol Zaar could NOT ONLY take out a planet of powered Kryptonians, but ALSO a planet of powered Kryptonian HYBRIDS! I'm pretty sure I saw an OMAC Superperson in one shot, the HECK?! And don't even get me started on the bore of a relationship that is Saturn Girl and Superboy, UGH.

Yet another horrible issue of the Legion by Bendis. Please get him off this book before he kills the Legion forever. I'm also not a big fan of the simplistic art by Ryan Sook, but it's much better than the story.
