The cliffhanger ending for the issue does feel a bit forced given what a strong presence Diana had managed throughout so much of the issue. And the inner struggle that the nightmare is bringing out of Diana and Constantine might seem kind of disinteresting on a surface-level, but there IS some interesting insight into the inner psyches of both heroes. Some of the surface level stuff can be pretty haunting in its own right. The lasso turning into barbed wire is a particularly intense visual given how reassuringly safe its been for Diana over the years...even when its been something of a threat to her.  Read Full Review

DCs horror event Knight Terrors is in full swing, and were finally to the part where Wonder Woman gets her own tie in. Unfortunately she felt like a guest to John Constantine in her own tie in. Meanwhile Steph Williams and Meghan Hetrick give us a dark story on Paradise Island where Nubias dealing with her own nightmare from the well of Horrors, and its a pitch perfect backup. Heres hoping that the next issue Diana doesnt feel like the guest in her own story. Read Full Review

The Justice League Dark gets the focus in Knight Terrors: Wonder Woman #1, but Wonder Woman gets to take charge as the main hero keeping their head about themselves. The magical blends well in a nightmare-infused story that sets up quite a threat for Wonder Woman to vanquish in the final chapter. Read Full Review

You get the sense that the story doesn't really know which character it wants to follow, which contributes to some difficult pacing. The first tale is fantastic! I WANT MORE OF THAT PLEASE. Give Josie Campbell and Juan E. Ferreyra a Justice League Dark book please. The second tale was boring so the rating is really for the first.

There are two stories in the book so I will rate each one. First story 8.5/10. The art is fire and WW actually feels like WW, or at least a lot more like she should compared to her previous writings, so kudos to Campbell I believe? Although it should be noted that Constantine does a lot of heavy lifting in this book, but he is quite well so I kind of look past that. Detective Chimp is sort of there as well as mostly comic relief which is sort of a shame. In all honesty with how well the WW lead Justice League Dark was, this book being a fair bit about them is good. As we move forward with people consantly writing her poorly (not this issue, this issue was fine), it feels more like she should be in JL:D then JL. Weird. Second St ory: 6/10. Not bad, not good. Art was meh. Mostly just a fight. Little story and not connected to anything so totally pointless. Final page was cool though. Might be a more interesting fight in the second chapter. Overall a 7.5 as I put more weight on the first story as it takes up like 80% of the book. more

I really hope Josie Campbell sticks the landing on this as I feel she may be the best writer DC has to finally provide a readable Wonder Woman series post Greg Rucka. Her track record from her work on New Champion of Shazam and the AMAZING My Adventures of Superman, already show she's a far better suited writer for the character than Tom King (all set with a depressing Wonder Woman story where half the writing is just old song lyrics).

There were multiple times I had to remind myself that Wonder Woman was the character name on the cover as the issue became an amalgamation of Justice League Dark stories. Wonder Woman still gets some solo scenes, though Detective Chimp and Constantine steal the show in an underwhelming Wonder Woman story, but overall enjoyable entry into the Knight Terrors event written by Josie Campbell. KNIGHT TERRORS: WONDER WOMAN #1 follows this trio as the attempt to free the rest of the League who they believe is held captive in the middle of a maze. Along the way they face various nightmare-induced monsters and hinderances that test their strength and mental fortitude. The setting is brilliantly captured by Juan Ferreyra's art. It's weird saying this about a book depicting a nightmare, but the entire issue is BEAUTIFUL from start to finish. Every scene is drawn with immense detail and the color decisions allow characters to jump off the page. There are multiple pages where I just stopped and stared at the artwork for a few moments before turning the page. Even without the core focus, I'm still intrigued enough for the second half of this story given the prime role Wonder Woman has been given in other Knight Terrors issues. A backup Nubia story by Stephanie Williams provided a much tighter narrative where the Queen of the Amazons faces her own nightmare - namely a grotesque, monstrous version of Gaia who is out for blood. Williams does a lot with just a few pages and the artwork by Meghan Hetrick is equal parts fantasy and horror. The purples and greens used in this story are a visual delight. Between this and her recent work on the character's limited series, DC needs to give Williams an ongoing Nubia title pronto. Rating: 7/10 more
