John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #5 takes a bit of a detour from the main story but takes the time to remind readers of the major themes the series has been covering. An anthology issue can take a bit of steam out of the main story or seem forced as a way to give the creative team a break but here it feels like the opportunity to cover more ground in a meaningful way. The journey meanders of into many stories within stories and makes the framework for the real story all the richer. The diverse art and voice was reminiscent of different times of what is John. Not going to lie but I want an 80pg special written this way each summer as I could never tire of these short stories.
