Green Lantern #51

Green Lantern #51 provides little information on Hal's transformation at the end of last month's issue before taking the reader back into space for another adventure. Writer Robert Venditti again shows strength with the character beats and then provides a greater introduction for the Grey Agents. The real treat this issue is the debut of Rafa Sandoval who impresses with his first foray into the Green Lantern universe. Read Full Review

While not as focused as one would have desired, Green Lantern #51 is still a decently entertaining read featuring gorgeous art from Rafa Sandoval. Hopefully they can wrap up all these threads well in next month's concluding issue. Read Full Review

At the very least, it seems that we're getting a cocky and confident Hal Jordan back. He tells his brother to have no fear before leaving Earth to zoom off and find the Grey Agents. It will be interesting to see how Robert Venditti and Co. wrap up this storyline or tie it into DC's upcoming Rebirth event. We still don't know a great deal about Rebirth, what will be kept or scrapped, or really anything besides some titles and their creative teams. This could very well be setting up for a conclusion to start the Green Lantern title anew at Rebirth in the summer or be an effort to tie the DCYou to Rebirth for some continuity. Who knows! At the very least, if they can find a way to bring back the rest of the Corps and reunite them, there looks to be a Green Lantern worth reading on the horizon. Read Full Review

Green Lantern leaves his current story, which kind of got all over the place with Sonar and Parallax and sets off on a new/old mission........ which kind of gets interrupted by a rescue mission..... That's right this story is all over the place and rife with filler just catching you up on the story of Hal Jordan's past and what led him to Earth in the first place.  The only real positive thing that I can say about this issue is that the art was great and it's a shame that's all we really get here. To be honest this issue of Green Lantern just feels like filler before Rebirth, with some nice action sequences but nothing of substance. It'll be interesting to see how all this wraps up next issue, but my hopes are not high at all. Read Full Review

This book looks good, but I just felt like this issue needed more on the "going full spectrum" that Hal did last issue and the beginning of this one. I am hopeful for the Green Lantern book to end well, and to give us closure for the whole Rebel Lantern, Hal on the run with the super power glove thing he has, but I just haven’t been as impressed by Green Lantern lately. I'm sure we will find out more about the power glove and Hal’s new full spectrum power (also, the power wipes out any traces of his own personality and memory?) next time and I'm betting it ties into Oblivion and Rebirth real nicely. I really like the secondary characters for this book, though, and I will miss them when they are retconned into Oblivion, not to be confuse d with Edge of Oblivion, but into ACTUAL oblivion when Rebirth happens. I am ready for this book to get over and Rebirth to reboot the story. I hope that things for GL and all their books level off with Rebirth and really stay as good as I expected them to always be. more

Hal's saying Parallax will follow him because he just wants revenge on him? That wasn't the impression that I got from the last issue, the impression that I got was that he wanted, more than anything, to make sure nothing every happens to Century City again. So either Hal is misguided, or Venditti is writing Parallax's motivation inconsistently. I wonder if we're going to understand what's going on with construct Hal before this run is over. I like the bit with the space bounty-hunters, that frog alien with the tv in the back of his head is the coolest thing in this issue.
