This was a fun read that took sci-fi and gave Hal a touch of Chuck Norris (Hell I bet even Hal wishes he was Chuck) as he took on the entire fleet himself. After last months issue which started slow it turned it around for me, and I absolutely dug it. I liked the story and the art and they meshed great for some entertaining moments. Seeing Hal cut loose with the Gauntlet had me cheering. This is how you do a GL book, adventure, witty banter, and action..action..action! With the return of a classic lantern villain at the end, I am excited to see where this one goes next. We may be in for some strange alliances. It's true he may not have the ring anymore, but if this momentum can continue there are sure to be plenty of "Brightest Days" ahead. Read Full Review

Green Lantern #42 goes back to the basic principles of science fiction adventure which has been a hallmark of the Green Lantern books for years.  Stripping Hal Jordan of the weight of being a member of Corps has begun to open new avenues for Robert Venditti to explore the character.  This issue, while providing a detour to discovering what's happened to the Green Lanterns, sets the Darlene's crew on a new course that is bound to be filled with new threats and familiar ones alike.  While this issue is a little heavier on character building it's an entertaining second chapter in Hal's new renegade persona.  Four out of five lanterns. I hope that everyone's memory is fresh from Green Lantern #39 because this issue is going to throw ideas at you that we haven't seen since that issue and maybe for most folks that's fine and they have total recall, but for me; I had to do a little homework to make sure I knew what was going on.  Last issue we had the setup of Hal's new persona of bad ass space outlaw and here we have another bit of setup getting us on trolley for what Hal will be up to from here on out and while I like the direction, the issue came off a little flat due to it.   Read Full Review

The second installment of Hal Jordan's new role is a rocky one.Green Lantern#42 lacks some of the creative punch of its predecessor, and the setting in his spaceship is not visually interesting for the issue to keep any momentum. "Green Lantern" #42 is, ultimately, still an average series. At least for now, the new direction is little more than window dressing rather than really working with a new setup. Being no longer a member of the Green Lantern Corps might have had more of a punch to it if the Green Lantern Corps hadn't also been wiped out (at least for now). Add in that we have a much stronger space-faring comic with renegades on the run published the same week at DC Comics ("The Omega Men") and this really doesn't stand out. Fans of recent "Green Lantern" will probably stick around but, for now, there's nothing offered up that feels like a strong jumping-on point. The potential for something truly different is here but, for the moment, it's business as usual. Read Full Review

This is a very solid issue. I'm looking forward to seeing the avenues this creative team will explore with the status quo being what it is. Will certainly be staying on my pull for the foreseeable future!.

Really shrugs off the cliffhanger at the end of #41. Other than that, it's a good issue and a great idea for the next big threat.

To me, this was a fun space story. It wasn't the most complex or intriguing comic I've ever read, but it was a fun little book. I do wish that I hadn't been forced to look up back story to really understand the full scope of what's going on; and the Black Hand bit at the end seemed abrupt, but, overall, not a bad book in the least.
