Future State: Nightwing #2 hit it out of the park as Andrew Constant and Nicola Scott make a strong case for this being the best Future State series. From beginning to end you are engaged in the events that unfold as Nightwing sets out to take down the Magistrate. All in all, this was a fine ending for the short Future State of Dick Grayson. It finishes well and provides a nice segue into the Future State: Gotham series, so that may be worth checking out. Future State: Nightwing #2 plays with interesting ideas in all the wrong ways. The drama is inert due to some key plot points being kept a secret until the end. Additionally, Nicola Scott struggles to both create interesting compositions and display Nightwing's unique skill set. Constant's script is overwritten, filled to the brim with ideas and statements that don't congeal into a precise point. I'm speechless. This is the Dick Grayson I love to see. After I read #1 I wasn't sure whether I would like this mini-arc if it weren't for the mess that came before (aka Ric Grayson, may I never speak of that again). But this Issue cements that Future State is is one of the best one-and-done arcs Dick has gotten in the last years. Dick isn't only highly competent, he also feels like himself. There are some more hardened edges, a certain paranoia, but for long-time Nightwing/Dick Grayson fans that will hardly be seen as out-of-character. And I enjoy that he is allowed to remain himself while leading the Resistance. His team-up with Jace is a lot of fun. Their characters complement each other well, and I hope we will see them team-up again in FS: Gotham. Seeing the resistance in action is also fun. The art has improved from #1. There aren't as many small panels that make Dick's suit seem unnecessarily clunky, which was my main gripe art-wise when reading the first Issue. I'd say Future State: Nightwing is for all those who want to see a return of Dick's technical skills and are interested in a cool team-up between Jace and Dick. more

WOW, this is the better Nightwing Content I have seen in quite a long time. I like that Nightwing is Leader of Resistance and we got to see resistance too. And the team-up between Batman and Nightwing was fun too.

Nightwing was probably my personal biggest surprise coming from Future State. I didn't expect much from it, but now I can confidently say that it's one of the event's biggest highlights. It's full of action, and while you can say it's a bit predictable at times, it doesn't stop it from being an entertaining, intense read. I like it, a lot. From the beginning it felt like it's a part of something bigger, something interconnected, which can't be told about most other books coming from this line. Nightwing's short story is more than just a tale. It's a connective tissue gluing together several other series, no matter good or bad. And because of it, it feels like its world is alive. Definitely recomment this one.

Future State Nightwing remains a good book. Much more hopefull with a very good characterization of Nightwing at its core. The Nightwing & (the new) Batman dynamic is alsa surprisingly good. Barbara's Oracle suit is also looking pretty good if I do say myself.

It was a surprisingly good issue with good art and pacing. But Dick Grayson continues to make a major mistake. I understand Nightwing is "his identity." But if he believes Gotham needs a Batman, then he needs to wear a bat costume. It is not enough to let someone else take over. Batman is not about skills, talents, courage. It is about compulsion, values, and determination - to fight crime without being a criminal. Robin in Earth 2 had the right idea. Some may have thought Earth 2 Robin's costume quirky. But if Nightwing believes a Batman is needed, he needs to be looking in the mirror. Not expecting that from strangers. I also don't believe Dick would have given up looking for Bruce. Especially after Oracle/Batgirl found e vidence of The Batman, during the breakout of the Magistrate prison (which this story would clearly be after.) But this story is written like he doesn't know anything about that. Detective Comics Issue #38: Batman and Dick Grayson: "That night two grim figures take an undying oath" -- Batman: "And swear that we two will fight against crime and corruption and never to swerve from the path of righteous" -- Dick Grayson: "I swear it." And THAT is DC Comics canon - probably one of the single most foundational part of DC Comics canon. That is the point of the Batman. There are plenty of other costumed characters. There is only one true Batman and Robin. And Dick Grayson has a responsibility to follow through with his oath... not leave it for strangers with unknown motivations. more

Earth-Two Robin and Earth-Two Huntress are my absolute favorite DC characters. And I loved both of his goofy costumes. I was heartbroken when both characters were killed off in a single panel of CoIE. Maybe with this “it all happened” approach they’ll be back somehow. Probably not but a guy can dream.

Yes, they were great characters. Earth 2 had a lot of good stories. I think the Earth 2 stories created story lines that would appeal to many long term superhero comics readers.

It was good, but I didn't like it. Much better quality than that of more than a year ago of course. But who really saves the day are his companions, he focused a lot on the relationship with the new Batman feeling something false here. Another thing I hate is that there is no connection between this nightwing and the nightstroke that comes out in titans I hate that they put characters to the fool, as this dick was related to the one in Teen Titans. It is a decent number but then the gaps what happens with that?

OMG TOTALLY FORCED THIS UNION. Of course they are using the acceptance that Nightwing has so that this Batman who now we do not know if his name is Tim or Jace Fox likes his character like a new Batman, it is like wanting to force a piece that you made and drew yourself to enter the puzzle. That's how it felt, what is more, this messy event was throwing up unfinished stories to insist that only this event be bought, everything is very forced, they want to force the reader to like this new 5G project that supposedly is not. (This seems to be heading towards wanting to 5g the main land and maybe get rid of some old characters later on) I definitely liked seeing the remnants of Nightwing that we know about and leaving the disastrous Ric be hind until his culmination in the Joker war (many Nightwing fans cried every time they criticized how bad there was this but now it turns out that they recognize the great disaster that was left after the shooting) In conclusion the development of the character of Nightwing as recovering the previous one but this forced union rots part of this achievement. And for me it was not the best story of this event, I liked Robin Eternal more. more

Silencecaptif I really don't hate it if they hadn't put the new Batman in such a forceful way, if this wasn't part of an event so lazy in its consistency, it would have been a very good story to which I would have given a 9 or 8 since It is nothing new that his allies come to support him, but he continues to give an emotional point and highlight the idea of DC that transmits "we all love Dick" whether you do it or not.

Mingthemerciless thanks to you too. There are people who hate the diversity of tastes and thoughts that are not according to their own, it is a shame because they are closed to the world. And I definitely hate when they don't give structure to a character, why repeat heroes, why not give Tim or now Jace Fox his own characterization and not be a carbon copy of Batman? That's what I want to do fast and that's what has led DC to constant failures.

Tim Fox as Batman has zero to do with good writing and conceptualizing and everything to do with DC pandering to social agendas. Ridleys presence is further evidence of that. Glomming the character to Grayson is weak and so obvious. All we want are good stories in Batman again. No agendas no robbing beloved characters of their lineage. Tim Fox as Batman is unearned and weak writing. If that is hate to you then throw some my way as well. Just write a good Batman story. Too much to ask?

Compare with Jean paul valley as batman. DC laid the groundwork with izrael. Batman fractured his allies with his obsession over bane and the arkham prison break. Exhausted he is broken by bane and valley says I'm taking over my methods are better. More brutal and polar opposite to batman. That worked because we knew bruce had to come back and deal with it.

The Fixs are the new Wayne's and Tim Fox appears in a batsuit calling himself batman while Bryce wayne has a Jerry rigged suit and still out there as batman albeit in a bare bones way. Three son and one biological properly trained and designed by Talia (since I use genetic engineering for improvements) and put it aside just to look like pc, I think it is not the best way. If they had put Luke I assure you that the result would not be so bad. Batman is training, discipline not a cape which is what he has been lowered to.

Blade is one of my favorite characters. From tomb of dracula through legion of monsters and his stand alone titles. Always ready for more blade stories. But that proves my point he resonated immediately with fans because he fit into tomb and his back story built from there. What they did to Lucius was lazy and stupid writing. But Tim Fox as Batman clearly isn't working for bat fans. It's just too obvious what's going on. Batman isn't even missing during future state. Bruce is there.

Have you seen the indie movie Rendel? Tim Fox would have worked so well in a vein like that. Lean stripped down angry and alone..family in tatters. But because agendas are more important than originality he must the top job immediately. He must be one of the elite characters right away. That to me is bad writing and conceptualizing.

We ve been teased a future Damien Wayne as more brutal batman and fans have reacted positively to that. And every bat fans would love to see Tim Drake in the Cape and cowl. His detective skills rival Bruce's and can be somber and moody like Bruce. DC shouldn't short change the fans that have stuck with the title simply to address social agendas. Its insulting.

I don't exactly understand why not do what they did with John and Clark, why not do it with Damian and Bruce, putting a little-known character, without training without the correct passage of the mantle is a serious mistake and I have actually read more unfavorable comments about this new Batman in the networks. I think the only one that has really liked is Yara and we go back to the construction of the character, really as you say she is bad and lazy.

@silencecaptif: Are you reffering just to this comic or Future State as a whole? I liked the first issue of Nightwing but this one was a bit on the nose with some of the dialogue, it went into cringe territory and overall just didn't achieve anything with Nightwing.
