Weird Science - Eric Shea
Feb 02, 2021Oh boy, did people not like the future of the Flash Family after what we got from the first issue of this series and if you were in that camp before, you definitely won't switch sides after this issue. That being said, I think that as bleak as this is, it's an interesting story that's told great and looks great on top of that. Not to mention that I love that this is the first part of a larger Future State story that continues on..... Dark, depressing... Between issue one and two it was hard to hope for any kind of happy ending, but I guess that is for the readers to determine. Feb 03, 2021The freedom the Future State provides is the greatest asset to the issue. Readers can not assume the heroes always win or that everyone can be saved. This creative freedom creates a worthy issue that is allowed to wrestle with the issue of evil triumphing over good. The ending may not be satisfying to fans, but it provides DC the ability to play around with concepts usually off the table in traditional super hero franchises. Read Full Review

The action sequences show off Barry's scientific mind and ingenuity in using the weapons of his enemies to stop his fellow speedster. Feb 02, 2021Future State: The Flash #2 has improved but is still disappointing. Darkness and misery absolutely have a place within superhero comics and have often been dealt with well by writers. But this comic is far too bleak. The pacing, characters, and dialogue arent doing enough to keep you invested in the plot. The art is brilliant and the fight is enthralling but the reader may find themselves tuning out from it. Fan-favorite characters have been killed off in this series but its hard to care about that fact when its almost a side note within the issue. However, the end of the comic provides some context to this world, so hopefully what comes next is worth the torment. Read Full Review

With how much fun the Future State direction has been thus far it is shocking to get such an unsatisfying reading experience like the one we got in the Future State: The Flash series. The fact that this series ended without even telling a complete story furthers how disappointing this entire experience was. At this point the best thing that can happen for the Flash Family is to forget that they took part in Future State. Read Full Review

From the Zack Snyder school of "let's make a Superman movie with no bright colors" comes a Flash comic covered in both actual and figurative darkness. In a vacuum, this would be a perfectly fine comic. It's well told and has nice looking art. But the fact is that this is a story about DC Comics superhero the Flash that literally turns the lead character's optimism into a doom and gloom downer.

Oh boy am I cautious about the upcoming Flash run. I'll give it a chance, but after this monstrosity it's really impossible to be even remotely excited about it.

I recently joked with a friend that the classic Marvel "What If...?" stories always ended with the end of the world. While Future State: The Flash #2 doesn't quite hit the full apocalypse, it does bring about the worst possible outcomes for the Flash family. It wasn't the ending I expected, but I don't really have a problem with the end of the story being a downer. My biggest gripe is that it's apparently a lead-in or tie-in to the Teen Titans Future State books, which I really have no interest in reading. Brandon Veitti has jumped the story ahead 2 months which seems like a lot of time when Kid Flash is apparently one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse bringing about the end of the world. If Brandon Vietti hoped for an emotional resolution to this comic, I think he missed the mark, not mentioning learned nothing from the hate wave related to the abominable Heroes in Crisis. Instead, this short story leaves you completely indifferent not only to itself, but also to what awaits us in Future State Teen Titans. It's just bad... sigh, time to retire the evil Wally West concept for few years, at least. It's also time to forget this comic ever existed... wait, what was I talking about? I feel like I forgot about something. Maybe it's for the better.

A wave of exposition about how great science is, only to watch it fail. I remember how unsettling Heroes in Crisis was, the characterization of Wally was so jarring that I thought it couldn't get any worse. Oh how wrong I was. Sprinkle in a little Cy-Beast and you have one god awful comic.
