Jan 10, 2015I don't like how this book is taking on the role of sidekick to the more heavily-pushed World's End, mainly because the first twenty-five or so issues were so good. DC Comics News - Myke Havoc
Jan 10, 2015While not a complete mess, Earth 2 continues to weaken in the absence of writer Tom Taylor. This issue fails to feel essential to the bigger picture, but I suppose it does answer some questions certain fans may have. And it leads us right into the Avatars going into battle, which I can only pray is an astounding visual and visceral return to form. Or at the very least, a satisfying issue to come out of either Earth 2 or World's End, because as with Green Lantern: Godhead, the steam feels like it's beginning to run out and pages are being padded to meet quotas. I believe in the concept and the characters and sincerely hope for a serious about face in quality and will continue to hold out for it, as the potential is just too good to completely let go of. Weird Science - Eric Shea
Jan 07, 2015Everything about this issue just seems like it's thrown together because the creators realized at the last second that they needed origins for their Avatar characters and produced the most generic take they could on the story. All the stories in this issue feel like they could have been placed in one of the many segments of World's End and saved this for an actual thought about concept. I have given this title a chance. I really wanted it to be great. The artwork has NOT disappointed; that's definitely not the problem, that's why it still at least gets a "6" from me. With the New 52 reset, all of the heroes are fresh, young, and new, so we really didn't need that in the Earth 2 comics. I miss the older versions of the Flash, and Green Lantern. Maybe you don't want them to look like senior citizens anymore, OK I get that, but with everyone else being so young now, how about we shoot for a 50's age range. I also don't like the elemental, spirit of the Earth thing they got going on with Lantern and Grundy. It's too Captain Planet for me. I don't like any of the newer characters they have introduced. This issue felt empty like the cliche about chewing a zero calorie sugarless gum. It's something to do/read but you get nothing out of it. Honestly the best part about this issue was the cover. That's a pretty swell picture of Alan Scott and Grundy and some other random avatars we are barely introduced to and then instantly forget about in the actual comic. This title was once one of my favorite books but now with DC trying to sell weeklies so they can drain your wallet 4 times a month instead of just once, this book has become a shell of its former self. Pity.
