But Why Tho? - William Tucker

Batman Secret Files: Peacekeeper #1 may be the best of the series. This is an excellent introduction for someone whose knowledge of Peacemaker-01 is limited. As a relatively new character, a standalone issue where they are the main character is a fantastic method of boosting their popularity. It has an awesome plot and Brissons script in both current and past timelines is sublime. Read Full Review

I'm not sure if Mahoney will meet his end in this story or not, but the creative team has slowly turned him into a genuinely terrifying threat"one that feels more real than costumed villains. Read Full Review

The character of Peacekeeper-01 is fascinating as we get to see his creation, and the journey of those impacted by Joker venom has to be a sad but captivating journey. This is a dangerous chemical that triggers severe psychotic symptoms. If you're a fan of villains and their origin stories, as well as a Neo-Gotham look, particularly if you've been following Batman: Secret Files, "Future State" and the current "Fear State", then this is certainly an issue you won't want to miss. While it might have a bit of a learning curve for readers who haven't yet dived into Peacekeeper-01's other appearances, this Batman Secret Files is a compelling and entertaining one, one that will make you want to follow the titular character to wherever he goes next. Read Full Review

An interesting look at the past and present of a relatively recent Batman rogue, well-drawn and colored alongside a good script. Read Full Review

While I can't say that the art is my favorite part of this book, it became something that I got used to by the end. The story though felt odd because of how much we've dealt with Sean Mahoney and with this realizing that we really don't know anything about him and what we do learn here, while interesting is interspersed with stuff that we've already seen this character do throughout Fear State so ultimately we're left with an issue that's only half-interesting with art that wasn't that great overall. Batman Secret Files: Peacekeeper-01 #1 is a mostly successful backstory for Peacekeeper-01 that turns said villain into something of a tragic character. Read Full Review

Amazing art! Josh Hixson should be drawing Batman or Daredevil or something.

I liked this. Even though PK-01 reminds me a lot of Lock-Up (Tynion isn't exactly known for his originality) he's an interesting character. I'm not a fan of Tynion's decision to make it so that Sean actually put those barrels there to cover up his previous mistakes, I actually liked that even though he's obviously fucked up in the head, he displayed a decent feat of heroism saving those nurses, this retcon doesn't help the character much. Still, I've enjoyed this and this is the only character from Tynion that I hope doesn't go away. Unlike Miracle Molly, Clownhunter, Punchline, Gardener and Ghost-Maker, this guy has a hero complex but is obviously disturbed and that makes him pretty interesting in the Gotham ecosystem.

I actually enjoyed this. It's weird how James Tynion's best issues in Fear State isnt the main event but its the tie-ins.

Honestly, much better than I expected from a Peacekeeper-01 one-shot. He's actually got a character that, while full of cliches, still manages to endear him to the reader. I really doubt we'll see him post-Fear State, though.
