Readers will likely find different favorites in this anthology, from the silly Darkseid and Harley to the stylish Phantom Stranger's staircase. The short story format still allows the Green Lantern and Vixen/Wonder Woman stories to ask deep questions about one's self and the world. Consequently, this is the strength of the collection. A little something to satisfy different readers while introducing something thought provoking. This may be one of my favorite anthologies of the year. It features an incredible collection of stories that allow for the writers and artists to experiment and put out some wonderfully frightening tales. Are You Afraid of Darkseid #1 is a mixed bag of Halloween-themed tales, featuring less of the Lord of Apokolips than one would expect. While some stories are worth a read, DC has done far better with its other holiday-themed one-shots. I can only hope that next year's installment is an improvement. Read Full Review

None of these stories are masterpieces, but Are You Afraid of Darkseid? is on whole a positive, pain-free experience to get you in the October mood even if each installment is bookended by inane Teen Titan banter. Read Full Review

While ultimately this issue is just here to have some fun with your favorite DC Comics characters during the spooky season, I'm not sure if it's really worth it in the end because the spooky stories that are told here are barely spooky stories. That being said though, even with the inconsistent feel of things going on in this book, you can still have some fun but personally, it just wasn't as much fun as I had hoped for. Read Full Review

Anthologies are very hit or miss, and this is no different. The best stories were the Bloody Mary story, the Batman story and the Phantom Stranger story. But those weren't exactly great.

I usually enjoy these anthologies around halloween but this has nothing to draw me in. DC really is running on fumes right now. They're likely counting on 2022s the batman to pull them out of this doldrum.

Do you mean Williamson's Batman or the movie? Because I'm not putting a lot of faith in Williamson's Batman. Not that he's a bad writer but dude has A LOT on his plate and I don't think he can carry all of those books, he's bound to slip somewhere. Plus the setting outside of Gotham doesn't help him. I hope the best because I love Batman but I'm slightly skeptical. Also, yeah, this was a dud.

No the movie. Williamson is going to introduce a new villian right away and have Batman leave Gotham to go after him after some hand wringing. I agree he got a crap sandwich from Tynion to chew on and DCs dithering with Usurper Batman.
