Aquaman #10

Those who would mock Aquamanwould do well to read this series. No longer focused on the “friend of the fishes” from the old Superfriends cartoon, this book is fast-becoming a political thriller on-par with the better episodes of The West Wing, albeit one in which President Bartlet occasionally slugs it out with a terrorist leader whose father he killed. Whilst you might be a little disappointed that a comic calledAquaman #10 doesn't actually feature the King of Atlantis himself – it's refreshing to have a break from Arthur Curry's brooding and politics based thinking. Don't get us wrong, the beginning of this solo series was one of the best stories we've read in a long time. But further down the line it seemed to lose steam. This is the issue that might reignite the series and put it back on track to a dsolid resolution. Although we haven't seen Black Manta in a while, so we should expect some treachery and deceit coming our way very soon. Overall – we lovedAquaman #10, it showcased Mera and her abilities in the best way. If there was any ever doubt that the Queen couldn't handle her own, she punches it in the face during this issue. Do not underestimate the appeal and potency of Mera! One does not miss Aquaman at all this issue, despite having been left in very bad shape in the previous issue. What is the truth of this prophecy? Is Mera really going to destroy the surface world? While it seems unlikely, what comes next cannot be missed for fans of great comics. Read Full Review

Walker's pencils give this a big blockbuster dynamic, but it's the smaller aspects like the detail in the character eyes and Mera's outfit scale pattern that really make his work stand out. Gabe Eltaeb's color work is some of the best in comics giving the book a vibrant feel. With this particular creative team, Aquaman is easily a top tier DC title. With the action poised to heat up, hopefully the band stays together for a string of consecutive issues. Read Full Review

A very Mera-centric issue that provides some answers and serves to humanize those Mean Girls at the Tower of the Widowhood. The return of a not-disliked character is pleasant, if inconsequential, and this issue directly continues the story from previous issues--but can be read as a standalone! It's a one-off! This doesn't look like it will be some bloated tale, padded out for the trade collection! It's the dawn of a new day, my fellow comics enthusiasts! The 5-7 issue story arc is defeated! All in all, Aquaman #10 is a satisfying read. The plot as it is currently unfolding promises to be interesting not least because of the focus on Mera. The execution thus far is a bit stilted, but the concept behind it is good enough to carry the issue. Abnett is laying the groundwork for may potentially be an exciting new direction in the book. Ultimately, this issue was fairly mediocre, not great but not terrible either, just bland. An improvement in the artwork would help, but ultimately the problem was simply that, for the most part, nothing happened except for an obvious red herring revelation at the beginning and a character learning something that the reader has known for several issues, seemingly just to push the story along. While I appreciate a greater focus on Mera this issue, and I sincerely hope that there are many more Mera-centric issues in the future, this one was not a great start. Read Full Review

After a rather poor start to Rebirth, this title is now firing on all cylinders. The momentum of the book is well served by the bi-weekly schedule.

This book has no Aquaman in it outside of some visions/flashbacks/etc. This is really a Mera story and I really enjoy that character. I found the first half to be a bit weaker than the second but it does set up some cool mythology for Atlantis. This prophecy will almost certainly be ignored and lead to a big disaster.
