Like so many horror series, it's hard to top the original. You need to ramp things up in unexpected ways and Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac #1 does that. Plot This new volume begins hours after what happens in WILMHURST, in another neighborhood full of assassins, which is led by Barry, who has Beastlord, Mr Wrinkly, Holiday Killer, Marmot, The Coven and Baby Alice under his command. Each neighborhood reports to a mysterious "corporation". Zel arrives with the survivors of Wilmhurst, Wyatt, Ella and Agent Connor Hayes, the third is now called the Butcher of Wilmhurst, he became so deranged that now Zel included him as a new assassin, but nobody likes the idea. Zel turns to Vilmos the Dream Master to keep a mental eye on Hayes. Zel asks The Coven to revive their most powerful assassin, Daniel Dawson, this infuriates Barry, but Zel without hesitation kills him and becomes the new leader. On the other hand, young Linus leaves the hospital and has Wyatt's demonic dog. Connor and Ella are in love, but Zel wants to transfer his soul to their baby. This new story starts off strong and you need to read the previous volume to understand what's going on, but it's worth it because this universe keeps growing in complexity and creativity. Art It maintains a gloomy tone but with a lot of dynamism it elevates the intense and violent murder sequences. Summary Zel arrives at another community of assassins with its new member... There's not much wild stuff happening in this one so far, but the story was funny and good enough to start.
