Alien vs. Predator: Life and Death #4

Aliens Vs Predator: Life and Death #4 was every bit of satisfying for how this last stand against the Xenomorphs played out. There's one more part to follow, and while this conflict comes out of left field I enjoy that nothing is ever so simple for these stories. Some say that you know what to expect from these stories, but they clearly have proven us wrong from start to finish of Life and Death. Overall AVP-Life and Death #4 is an explosive end to this epic story arc. It sets up the final chapter which is sure to be just as exciting as the previous entries. This crossover event has been an edge of your seat thrill ride that has been so satisfying, it's amazing that its managed to maintain the momentum for almost a year. Complete with thrilling action and deep meaningful themes about life, sacrifice and reflections of death and destiny, this book brings the Aliens and Predator mythology to a whole new level. With all these deadly forces closing in on the survivors in the finale, it's hard to know who will survive. As it turns out, screams can be heard in space. Read Full Review

Like previous issues, the art by Brian Thies is polished and desolate in ways. Thies' art feels like it focuses on more Chris's actions including some interesting speeches about the power of love. I'm curious to see how the art will amplify the ending of the story arc. Read Full Review

With a bit more to go I'm definitely going to call this particular miniseries a success. It's a smaller and more focused leg of the cycle with what we get as it brings the various sides together but it delivered some big action pieces, a whole lot of tension, and a great finale that leads into the capping off issue next time around. Abnett found his groove long ago back in the Fire and Stone material and he's just killing it with ease here. But it's elevated wonderfully thanks to Brian Thies' artwork that just brings it out so well with the humanity of the characters and the emotions and intensity of the aliens and the predators. Definitely a lot of fun on a monthly basis and one that I imagine will read even better in a full collection. Read Full Review

All in all, Alien vs Predator: Life and Death did a much better job with the story than Fire and Stone. I felt at the end of Fire and Stone it got way out of hand and lost whatever momentum was built up to the point. This is where the more organized format did it's job. The story, while not as ambitious as Fire and Stone was easier to follow and read. It all ends with a 40 page finale next month. I'm sure the Engineers still have something to say about what happened.. Read Full Review
