You might come for the new take on Arthurian legend, but you'll stay for the amazing character work and incredible art. Once And Future #4 is a perfectly paced book that keeps the action on a boil. While also giving some exposition that adds another layer to the whole thing. Gillen is using the book to say something about the way people interact with stories and how they can affect the real world. Moras art continues to impress. 'Tight' is probably an excellent descriptor for this whole issue, really"the art is spot on, the story flows smoothly"and the dialogue, which I noted in issue #3 was a bit clunky was significantly less so this month. By the end of Once & Future #4, its hard to say if Duncan is the hero or the victim of this tale. This is a new experience when the guy is a full adult with his world shattered between what he never knew about his family and understanding the sacrifices one must make to reach the Holy Grail. For once you really don't envy the main character being exposed to a fantasy world. Read Full Review

The comic also offers a quick cameo to another member of Duncan's bizarre family, which in turn reveals a bit more about Bridgette and how she's been pulling strings for years to prevent what is currently unfolding (although the cliffhanger ending makes it look like she'll need a bit of help to keep going). THE GOOD: -I love this series so much. -I mean Dan Mora is just incredible. I feel like people aren't talking about him enough. He's probably on of my top three artists working right now. -This story is so damn compelling. -I love all these characters. -This issue got quite brutal. Remember last review when I said fans of all ages an enjoy this? Maybe not all ages. -Kieron's writing just has so much personality here, as per usual. Same goes for Young Avengers and The Wicked + The Divine. I'd highly recommend both those series if you haven't read them, but the way. -I know I already talked about his art, but Dan Mora is exceptionally good at drawing castles. Just thought I'd mention that. -So muh happened in th ose last three pages and it was incredible. THE BAD: -I dunno. Arthur and Galahad are just very bland villains. more

Gillen's story has been engaging thus far, but the standout in this series is Dan Mora. His art is amazing, in my humble opinion, and I immediately became a fan of his with the first issue of 'Klaus'.
