This is the story that fans deserve, and as long as Boom and the creative staff continues to respect the fans and deliver amazing issue after amazing issue, every fan should continue to support the series. In a nutshell, this issue takes what's come before and adds an extra layer of awesomeness in the form of a shocking revelation. It gives Zack more depth as a character and explains his demeanor in previous issues. This is turning out to be one of my favorite comics since Batman: Hush and that's high praise indeed. The kids that grew up on the series are old enough now to read the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers#5 and the rest of the series and still love it just the same. So over all this book is a great read, with fun art and action. Buy two of these books one for you and one for a new reader. I love giving my nieces and nephews comic books to read, it fosters a hunger for fiction. This book is appropriate for all ages and has a good lesson in it. Boy or girl I think they'll enjoy it. Boom Studios' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series has been nothing short of a genuine surprise and issue #5 is no exception. Writer Kyle Higgins has done an impressive job of adding to history with a modern and complex take, while still keeping the fun campy lure that the original series held. Power Rangers is doing a good job of rebooting the series and telling a familiar story while keeping it fresh and good looking. It's interesting enough that it could easily appeal to fans or newcomers interested after all the recent news about the movie coming out. The pacing of this issue really doesn't help it and feels a little like a filler issue. Yes, it gives us some back story, but after leaving on a cliff hanger, more plot would be nice. There is a Bulk and Skull issue at the end of this issue too that seems pointless. It's full of references that only watchers of the original will get and yet the jokes are so dull that I'm not even sure children would find them funny.. Read Full Review

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #5 gives us a break from the main narrative, showing Rita's original plans for a Green Ranger. Despite getting off to a jittery start, the creative team quickly turn this into one of the most powerful character developments to date, with there being some fascinating moments throughout. Zach gets the much deserved spotlight in this one-off installment. The character work here doesn't change the character in any monumental way, but it does give him an added depth that's been lacking in past issues. The issue also adds an interesting wrinkle to the Green Ranger mythos, one that may come back to taunt Tommy in some fashion. Since this book is set prior to the first four books, this could be a good hopping-on point for those unfamiliar with the series to date. No prior knowledge is required, although new readers will miss the central point of the book in explaining Zacks secret motivations and past experiences with the dragon coin. As for continuing readers, you may find it a bit of a bore after the dizzy excitement of the last one, but think of it as something to cleanse your palate before we dive back into the action in issue six. This issue was a solid 9/10 for me. A lot of the reviewers are saying that this is a stand- alone issue, but I can't help but see how it ties directly into, and lays groundwork for, the main story. It's a prequel issue, and it very much informs us about Zack's demeanor in the current timeline, and the reason why he, of all the rangers, is so dead set on not trusting Tommy. It shows a brilliant amount of character depth for the one time 2nd-in-command of the original MMPR team, and the perspective it brings him in dealing with the idea and threat of the Green Ranger. As an old school fan of the original rangers , it was cool to see that Jason and Tommy weren't the only one's captured and brought to Rita's Palace to be seduced by power. Th at Zack resisted temptation and then informed Zordon of Rita's plan, shows that the Black ranger's Humility and Honesty are as much a part of his natural power set, as his dynamic fight moves. Speaking of, I know they're not bringing back Hip-Hopkaido , but it would be cool if the series artist(s) would show off some of the unique combat maneuvers that made Zack a fan-favorite. more
