I love the Klaus series and am happy I have got to review them all (except for the first mini-series). I look forward to a new installment every year and Klaus and the Life & Times of Joe Christmas #1 does not disappoint. It is filled with all the Christmas Spirit you will need. Overall I enjoyed this, but at 5.99 for digital purchase on Comixology. I think the price is a tad steep. But I will most likely try and pick up a physical copy at some stage because it would work well as an alternative advent calendar. Read Full Review

THE GOOD: -Ah man, this was just great. -Dan Mora's just such a phenomenal artist. Everything of his I've read, I've loved. -I like the calendar aspect of this. It's such a simple idea, but its executed really wonderfully. -Kudos to Grant Morrison for telling such a wonderful story using no words and 25 splash pages. -Goddamn this issue knew how to hit you in the feels. It's really, really beautiful, if I'm being honest. -I like how every page felt like it had a reason to be there. There were no weak pages at all. Each one had something to offer. Humor, heart, emotion, a nice little connection to the time period. -The reverse chronology was really effective here. -This issue made me laugh on multiple occasions . Grant Morrison really was a master manipulator of emotions here. -This was exactly what I needed after such a busy lead up to Christmas eve. After so many days of rushing, stressing, and working, being able to sit down for ten minutes and read this beautiful, beautiful comic just put me in the perfect mood. -Is there a better Christmas comic? I'm about to embark on a reread of all the issues of Klaus before this in a few minutes, and I don't think there's a comic that captures the real "Christmas spirit" all the cheesy Hallmark movies talk about better. THE BAD: -Nah. I got nothing. For what it's going for, this is the perfect comic. I think this series may be one of my all time favorites. more

this was a really nice surprise wasn't it? glad that Morrison and Mora have been giving us a new Klaus on-shot every year since the mini-series ended.

Yeah. I knew it'd be a calendar issue, but I never expected this level of story or emotion. Also, getting an issue of Klaus every year is a real treat.

indeed! the level of emotional depth was actually very overwhelming at points. and that the issue showed just how short our lives really are was yet another factor. it all just passes by so quickly. i can't even say how much this comic affected me. ....i'm so happy that we'll have these from Morrison to look forward to each year.

thank you! .... i have to admit that the one detail that really struck a chord with me, even in my first read was seeing the Senior Kitty resting right up in the foreground. it struck me as sad because i knew that since the Kitty hadn't been seen at all before that, that his life ended shortly after that. ...and then seeing as the years rolled back the kitty in his younger more vital days. it was even heartbreaking to see him lose his eye in his very first appearance in the comic.

it's absolutely amazing the level of emotion that Grant Morrison is able to achieve with a series of splash pages, chronicling in reverse, the life of one of Klaus' mortal allies, with absolutely no dialogue. you get a real feeling of the good times as well as the sorrow and the loss of this Joe Christmas, there were a few times when i felt myself getting emotional seeing some of the loss this Joe Christmas has gone through. a charming yet powerful read. Dan Mora's art really soars in this. very beautiful.
