All in all the comic is pretty good, its a different take on a traditional story, but I thin it works well in this day and age. We have a more compelling cast and a lot more opportunities for action and suspense. Not knowing the other 2 issues makes it difficult to truly understand the context of his piece, but its good for what it is. Your local comic book store may have it, but you can also buy it online and download it too.

This isnt a bad manga, but its not great either. Its very simplistic in terms of the story and some aspects such as the sword versus robot spider thing isnt explained very well. The characters goals are also stereotypical and common. Also this story is available as a web comic, but the whole story isnt up, but most of it is. I think were just getting to the beginning of this story, and whether it will get better or not is yet to be seen.

Doctor Who: A Fairytale Life #1 |

All in all, it's a charming comic book, in some ways it's not really a big leap from the kind of thing that Doctor Who normally does. Even if you're unfamiliar with Doctor Who, you would like this comic if you like light hearted humour and if you are not big into violence. The violence in Doctor Who is ever so slight, making it appropriate for most ages.

Overall I give the issue a good rating. This issues is more of a stop gap between the big things that are about to happen next, but I think its set the tone for future issues nicely. I give the issue some good marks, but not great ones.

To wrap up, cool use of bringing in the Flagg, Snake-Eyes as the enemy is ridiculous, Helix and Scarlett are attractive women and finally Cutter should have red hair.

All in all I think the comic was good, but not fantastic, then again this was just to give us a taste of what's to come. I would recommend everybody who likes G.I. JOE to go out and buy it and start reading it. You probably don't need a lot of backstory to really understand this series, if you're not familiar with G.I. JOE I would recommend getting your hands on the paperback versions of IDW's G.I. JOE.

GIJOE The Cobra Civil War: An Overview #1 |

Final concluding paragraph. The series has been pretty good. There have been some hiccups. The artwork has all been spectacular, then again I'm more of a story guy myself. Though there are times when a lot of effort goes into making some drawings really good, and then other drawings look like they've been put together really quick. I imagine one can't spend their time putting 100% effort into every panel, but still it stands out when you're looking for it. If you like action and Snake-Eyes you'll like GIJOE. In some ways its far more realistic than ever. It is violent though, so parents keep that in mind when introducing your kids to GIJOE. If anything start at the beginning with Marvel issues, but of course IDW owns that all now, but they are being pretty spectacular in reprinting all of the old issues in paperback. If you haven't ever read GIJOE and you read this whole thing, then I apologize, this probably made no sense whatsoever. Anyway just go get the reprints of the first few is

Graylight had great artwork, which I have come to expect from Nowak, but her story writing still needs some work. The question I ask myself, is what do we want the reader to come away with from reading this story? For this story my mind drew a blank.

All in all, I am very positive towards this piece, I think that this piece was written towards an audience like me specifically that likes to combine the future with the past. I dont know if this appeals to everyone, but I enjoyed it. This comic is available on the next just go to www.bigsexycomicbooks.com and you can see this issue along with their two others, Teuton and Mike Gorbsmith. I will post reviews of those two within the next few days.

Other than these minor details, the stories are woven quite well. The artwork has fantastic detail in it too. There are many scenes where sweaty faces are depicted quite well. Kurdy's freckles are frequently visible as are the lines of people's faces. Those familiar with my reviews know I am a sucker for the little details. Let's face it too this was all done by hand, no fancy computers helped out here. The general look of the artwork stands between real and cartoonish, leaning more towards real. There's a gritty sense to the artwork as well and considering the setting that's to be expected. If you get a chance to grab these books, do so. This is a classic piece of work that feels familiar and doesn't feel dated like many old science fiction stories do.

Mike Gorbsmith #1 |

Its original the comic, but not completed nor terribly relevant in todays day and age. Come on Communism died with the Cold War and no one considers Chinas Communism to be the same breed as the Soviet Communism was. I dont know if the writers and artists are working on finishing the comic or not, but if you want to read it, go to bigsexycomics.com. The artwork in the piece is a bit cartoonish, but then thats fitting for this parody genre. The drawings themselves are usually pretty good especially the melodramatic facial expressions of Gorbsmith and Beate Durouse.

Overall the comic is worth getting if you like either Doctor Who or Star Trek and if you like both then even better. The Story is interesting and definitely unique. It leaves a lot of mystery in the air as to what's going to happen next making the reader want to get the next issue.

This comic is an action/adventure story. The artwork is really well done though in black and white. The drawings are very detailed and well done. The fight scenes are also well detailed and somewhat gory such as the guy who gets his stomach cut open and his intestines pop out. The last panel in the first issue is my favourite where we see Andrus eyes in the reflection of his sword. All in all not a bad comic, those that are sensitive to issues of religion may not like this comic, there are also a few panels with nudity.

The Best American Series 2009 #1 |
Dec 24, 2010

I made this comment with the last series as well, but I really would have liked these series to advertise where the material thats published is from so that readers who enjoy those comics can go and find it. It does this to some extent, where the authors put in the back of the book some information about their comic strip and themselves, but these sections do not always explain where more of the comics can be found. To me these books are great for demonstrating whats available to readers in the comic world that isnt mainstream. Theres countless comics about superheroes and villains, many of which I like, but the more obscure stuff is what is covered in this series. These tend to be the comics that get less attention, well Im assuming this, I dont know this, but since Ive never heard of many of these comics until I read the series, I felt that was a safe assumption to make. Whether theyre the best or not is arguable though the decision of what gets to be put into the book is usually mad

The artwork in this piece is rather well done as well. Great drawings, shading. The little nasties are drawn quite well, each having their own distinct clothing or set of horns. The Wild Boar creatures are drawn well, they look quite fearsome. The artist pays attention to the little details as well as the gear thats drawn on the White Riders horse in the beginning is very intricate. As are the clothes that Pilate and Phenoa wear. The drawing all around is quite good and it was a more realistic look to it, which lends better to the atmosphere of the story than if it were more cartoon like.

The Raven and Other Poems #1 |

The artwork in this piece is done by Gahan Wilson, which has both its good and bad points. The elements that I do like is the authors work of shading so that all colours appear darker. The yellow knight for instance is drawn with dark shading in his armour so that the yellow is not as vibrant as it would be if there no shading at all. The drawings themselves look simplistic, though. The features of the characters are like cartoon drawings, instead of the haunting realism that one would expect to accompany Poes work. The character in the first poem The Raven has large eyes, a small chin, a gigantic forehead and then the grow is rather large too, with gigantic claws. At the same time the largeness of the raven is more haunting especially as it grows bigger from one picture to the next. There are more detailed drawings in The City in the Sea, where Wilson really captures the skeletons and their tombs, and these drawings are considerably more realistic looking than his earlier images. Unholy Kinship #1 |

The best part of this book is its artwork, which in of itself is easy to get yourself lost in. The two sisters in the book are so beautifully done, with rosy cheeks and glistening skin, they appear better looking then people themselves do. Nowak captures the characteristics of mood and character well, emotions are very easy to read and the stuffed animals are charming to look at as well. Weather also plays a distinct role within the story and its visual depiction is done well. Where we get these scenes with rain and wind adding to the stress of Lucas daily life. The animals in the story dont get the same visual attention that the human characters do. There are fewer shiny points that attract the attention, theyre mostly solid colours. Despite the stunning visuals of this book, the story itself did not attract me much.
