Magic 2013 Intro Pack: Path to Victory #1 |
Jul 13, 2012
show
All together, the deck accomplishes what these intro decks are supposed to. It gets a new player to start chewing on the rules, while also providing top tier cards to keep and so-so cards to trade out. My only real issue with it is that Odric is definitely not a beginner-level card and may cause some headaches.

Dungeons & Dragons, The Red Box #1 |
Nov 02, 2010
show
Hopefully this answers your burning questions about the Red Box. Now stand back as I go through the complex process of rating it. On the one hand it is a very nice introduction to D&D for people who have never played it before, on the other hand it is a very nice introduction ONLY for people who have never played it before. For an experienced player like me there is nothing in the Red Box that is necessary or even all that appealing, but I could see myself handing the Player book to someone who always wanted to check D&D out. I think in the end my rating for it will land somewhere in the middle. The Red Box is a stellar gaming product that is largely irrelevant to current gamers. 3 stars.

Legend of The Seeker, Season 2 DVD Set #1 |
Oct 26, 2010
show
In the end Legend of the Seeker, season 2 is good, solid fun. If you want to watch a groundbreaking series full of twists and unforeseen swerves then this may not be what you want. However if you want an episodic fantasy adventure that comes very close to recapturing that old Xena magic, I recommend that you pick this up. I give it an initially reluctant 3.5 stars.

X-Men Animated Series Vol. 5 DVD Set #1 |
May 31, 2010
show
Probably the biggest highlight of this volume is the propensity for guest stars, which include Nightcrawler and Longshot (Both X-men in the comics, but not part of the main roster in the series) and most prominently, Captain America. The rogue's gallery is ample as well, with the nice twist that, during the Phalanx Covenant, the X-men must team up with Sinister. This collection also features a couple of noteworthy episodes, mainly "Old Soldiers" the aforementioned Captain America Crossover; "Jubilee's Fairy Tale Theater" Which proves that just because someone is already a part of the franchise doesn't mean they can't write self-insertion fanfic about it; And "Graduation Day," The series' final episode, which features Professor X in his deathbed going around the room giving each X-Man a shout out. I'm not going to lie, I got a little choked up.

Iron Man: The Complete 1994 Series 3-Disc Set #1 |
May 21, 2010
show
I give the Iron Man Animated Series 3-disc set three whole slices of meatloaf, because it's concise and it gives you an almost scientific glimpse into a series being rebranded, with the added benefit that, if you don't want your kids to watch them newfangled Secret Saturdays, you can get this collection for them and expose them to some quality, family friendly (TV-Y7) superheroics.
