Last of the Greats does have potential but if the second issue doesnt deliver something to piqued interests then I dont think many people will follow this book to find out.

9/10 (for #5 and the series as a whole)

The Homeland Directive is a sure page turner. My only criticism is that it wrapped up too easily, which left the ending a bit flat. But even with that minor critique The Homeland Directive is a great read; one that is more movie then comic. Let's just hope that if Hollywood gets it's vice grip on this story they don't foul it up.

I actually did like something about this book; it was the art. Dean Haspiels style really fit the whimsical tone of the book. If the story had been stronger it would have been a good read mostly due to his artwork.

That last point leads me to the art. Ferrys art is bare and basic as it gets. There arent any backgrounds or much else going on in the panel. Larroca pitched in and drew about half the issue. Im not sure if Perry couldnt finish the issue or if it was intentional to have two artists; my guess is it had something to do with Perry. The art, coupled with the fast pacing, really showed an inexperience or a lack of effort on the artists. This issue clearly had the rough put together in a hurry feel that led to an uneasy disinterested read.

Unfortunately, with these two issues Love and Withers bog down the story and severely slow down what was good pacing in the first issue. Issues 2 & 3 could easily have been rewritten as one concise issue and made for a much more pleasant read. I was a little disappointed after I read both issues; it felt as if there was really no point to each issue and that neither propelled the story along adequately. This is a very tenuous spot for a comic because if a book isnt paced properly readers will become bored and move on to something else that interests them. I hope this wont be the case with issue 4, simply because I thought the first issue truly got off to a great start.

Cyclops #1 was a good clean start to this limited series and definitely piqued my interested as to see the progression of the story. Anyone interested in sci fi with a realistic touch should check this one out.

While The Uniques is not the most unique story ever it does offer the reader lots of action and a pacing that keeps the reader interested and looking forward to the next issue.
