The Mercenary Sea #1 |

I'm not exaggerating, this series looks to be a lot of fun and given how well-realised our main players are in the first issue – plus the three or four long term arcs that have already been seeded – I'd recommend you jump on board at the beginning.

In between snippets of the wider insanity, we get a pretty big revelation about Abe too which could well be the crux that moves this arc to its conclusion.

Bounce #9 |
Jan 28, 2014

This issue features exposition that twists the plot arc in a few new ways and also some pleasingly intense fight scenes, closing with a seemingly innocuous conversation that threatens to send everything going that one step closer to absolute insanity.

This is the comic equivalent of a Russian Circles or God is An Astronaut song dropping into your otherwise straightforward playlist. Confusing yet engaging and leaving you wanting more.

The Transformers are all grown up and if, like me youve been away from Cybertron for a while, I would advice that you return for a visit but keep your blaster handy and enough energon in your tank for a quick getaway.

The Shadow: Year One #7 |

The combination of effective artwork and an almost surprisingly engaging story (given the relatively well worn tropes on display) makes this a series well worth getting into. I might have to go back and buy the earlier issues myself.

However, there's not much here for anyone else and of all the Dredd tales it's aged particularly badly. In short, there are a hundred Dredd stories I'd point folks towards before this.

To be honest, the whole thing seems a bit forced and combined with the artwork puts me in mind of a group of folks playing 7th Sea while calling themselves Green Hornet, Vampirella etc.
