Absolute Superman (2024) #3 |
Jan 1, 2025 |
Wow! Just like the past 2 issues, Issue #3 brings high energy and a whole lot of heart. The present day story takes a pause, in order to provide more context to the last days of Krypton, and it DELIVERS. Unapologetically for the working people, this version of the Els truly reflects the complex times we live in today. Rafa Sandoval's art is BADASS! Lara gets a lot of time to shine in this issue. Admittedly, I haven't enjoyed reading about Kal-El's mom as much as I have here. |

Absolute Wonder Woman (2024) #15 |

For how rough and cold the Absolute Universe is, this is such a cute and gentle meeting between two goliaths of justice. I could not have asked for a more uplifting story, of a duo with great chemistry. Instead of an overly tense or dramatic headbutt between the two, Thompson and Sherman focus on what would bring Batman and Wonder Woman together. They have an immediate trust and kinship, towards a common goal to make the world a better place. Here's to many more Absolute team ups! |

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum (2025) #4 |

Shamelessly Silver Age. It’s got the imagination, the silliness, and most importantly, the heart. This book is everything that makes DC Comics great - fantasy and humor grounded in real emotion. Clever theme that I don’t see too often - about how Superman sees Kryptonite as a form of rejection from his home planet. Sad stuff… very excited to see how this story concludes. |

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum (2025) #5 |

Brings tears to my eyes - Prince and Morazzo stuck the landing the only way they could - by being weird, heartfelt, and SILVER AGE. It truly is refreshing to see Superman and his cast depicted thru such a high energy, high imagination lens, while maintaining the emotional weight that has always connected audiences to Superman stories for almost a hundred years. Timeless yet harkening back to an era where anything and everything was possible - I truly hope this mini series sets the stage for what is possible in a Superman story, for years to come. There is always a way. To Prince, Morazzo, and team - thank you! |

Absolute Superman (2024) #14 |
Dec 24, 2025 |
Epic conclusion to the 2nd arc. Aaron and Sandoval deliver on a super man made of grit and steel, paving the way for a world he doesn't really know his own place in. Yet despite (or because of) all his pain and angst, Superman's compassion for his worst enemies creates a domino effect in the Absolute Universe that leads to a brighter tomorrow. What I love about the past 14 issues is that Superman continues to make tough choices that he's not even fully comfortable with, yet he is strong enough to live with his decisions. He knows what it's like when the most powerful person in the room leads with revenge and apathy. Instead, Superman sets an example for even the weakest souls to follow. Aaron and Sandoval - your character truly inspires, while still being a man of the people. Bravo. I can't wait to continue following this excellent series. |

Groovy start to what seems like an interesting series. Lieber’s art speaks for itself. Ewing’s writing evokes a Silver Age energy, and interesting premise that definitely makes you want to read what happens next. |

DC K.O. (2025) #2 |
Nov 26, 2025 |
This issue really delivers on the fun, energy, and excitement, that has been advertised for the series. Non-stop DC goodness that takes from all corners of the DC universe, lore, and cast. Fun interactions from characters you don't normally see interact. I love that Snyder still puts Superman at this story's core. He needs to write Superman more, he really gets him! Also - the ART IS AMAZING. Great job from Javi Fernandez & Xermanico. Minus points for half of my bracket being wrong. I'm kidding, of course. |

Justice League Unlimited (2024) #2 |
Dec 27, 2024 |
I dug this WAY more than Issue #1, which was more of a straight-forward JL adventure thru the eyes of a newbie. This issue keeps the fun but with some much-needed emotional interactions between JLU members. Waid’s setting up some cool mysteries (particularly with J’onn) that we’ll hopefully see payoff in the next couple issues. J’onn is an underrated and essential member of the JL, so I’m excited to see him (and his vulnerabilities - not just physical, but emotional) get the spotlight. I believe other mysteries such as with The Atoms will be addressed outside of the JLU series, but nonetheless, Waid balances levity and tragedy effectively, which he is known for throughout his bibliography. |

DC K.O. (2025) #1 |

I didn't intend on reading this - I only bought the 2nd printing because of Dan Mora's Absolute variant cover... but I'm very happy I ended up reading it. Intriguing set up, following the "DC All In" tie-ins sprinkled throughout the DC Universe this past year. Takes no time in pulling you right into the action, with some promising surprises, I'm sure. Art is AMAZING. |

Action Comics (2016) #1081 |

Pretty good conclusion to a pretty good weekly series. To reference the very first episode of the “Young Justice” cartoon, I wasn’t overwhelmed, I wasn’t underwhelmed, I was just whelmed. Waid does a decent job harkening back to the endless imagination and adventures of Superman comics of yester-year. It’s got heart, it’s got good guys, it’s got bad guys. However, this feels like a victory lap, rather than a high-stakes race. This is Waid reminiscing, playing it safe, and delivering a Superman story that is just decent. |
