THE SECRET ORIGIN OF SARA GREY Protecting the cosmos as PHOENIX, Jean Grey has experienced near-limitless mystery and wonder - a universe of perpetual possibility! But nothing so magnificently unexpected as this: Her sister, SARA GREY, has returned to life. Murdered by the Phalanx many years ago, another in a long line of Greys to lose their lives in untimely, violent ways, Sara nonetheless stands before Jean, alive and well. But - when?! Why?! How?! All of these are questions worth asking. And Jean Grey probably should. Needless to say...this would be a very different story if she did.

What I love about this comic run of Phoenix is that there's always something new around every corner. Whether it be a sibling that comes back from the dead, a cosmic entity trying to take Jean down, or a planet in need of help, Stephanie Phillips knows how to keep you on your toes and your eyes locked to the comic. You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff Jun 14, 2025

With the introduction of one of the goofier characters in the X-books at issues end, Philips is going to have some difficulty keeping everything grounded as she moves forward into its second year in July. The weird complexities of relations between the cahracters could be a bit of a challenge to articulate in and amidst everything thats going on. Hopefully the central concern of Jean doesnt get too terribly lost in the process of delivering that complexity to the page. Read Full Review

Phoenix has some interesting ways to go, but I'm surprised at how little Phoenix there is in this issue. It's not bad, just surprising. Giving it over to mostly letting Sara provide her backstory and recounting new events of what happened after her “death” is welcome since it's something I'm not familiar with. It plays out pretty straightforward in nature and it does basically set her up as a good person trying to do the right thing. You're just left waiting for the other shoe to drop with what's really going on her, especially since it provides for an (unwanted) guest at the end. I'm glad it didn't try to cram too much in here, and that it took time to humanize Sara a bit more in relation to Jean, so I have a better handle on this storyline going forward now than I did before. Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez Jun 13, 2025

Phoenix #12 was in the never enviable spot of explaining how Sara Grey returned and suddenly had mutant powers. For as much as Stephanie Phillips and Roi Mercado try to simplify the explanation they are unable to avoid the overcomplications that come with returns in the X-Men franchise Read Full Review

    A Truly Engaging Experience!
This comic doesn’t just entertain—it immerses you completely. You’ll find yourself losing track of time as you get sucked into its world, captivated by the writing, the visuals, and the emotional highs and lows. It’s the kind of comic you can’t put down, and once you’re finished, you’ll be counting down the days until the next issue.

A Comic That Stays With You
Long after you’ve finished reading, this story lingers. The emotional beats hit hard, the visuals are unforgettable, and the themes echo in your mind. This is what comics should be—powerful, beautiful, and unforgettable.

"Every frame is worth pausing on."
It’s the kind of comic where you want to stop and admire each page. It’s clear that a lot of love and skill went into the art.

This issue isn’t very Jean focused but more on her sister, Sara. The reader finally gets to know exactly why and how she disappeared all those years ago. Something that has been a mystery to us since the 1990’s. We finally get closure on that decades old mystery and get a more detailed history on Sara. I’m excited to see where Stephanie takes this. Is this really Sara? Is she good or bad? Why is Cable suddenly hunting down his aunt? Jean hasn’t had an easy life and this new chapter will bring on more drama that one can only hope will end on a good note for her. Either way, the readers are in for one rollercoaster ride of an adventure. My main criticism, as usual… it’s the art. This series deserves better pencils for such a cosmi more
