    Comic Watch - B. Radtz Dec 10, 2025

The first issue is the a decent issue, giving us a dark saga thats an unapologetically macabre story, weaving a tapestry thats world building. It feels rather reductive for the older fans, but theres not enough meat on the bones for new fans either. Overall its fun, but could be a lot more. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff Dec 10, 2025

There has been some decent work done bringing this particular premise to the page once more. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here. The basic premise is nice enough and clever enough that I could actually go in a whole bunch of different directions that don't necessarily have anything to do with where it's been before. It will remain to be seeing if it gets any more traction than the original series. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke Dec 9, 2025

The Darkness #1 is a loud, unapologetic reboot that proudly embraces its '90s DNA while attempting to reintroduce the character for a new generation. Marc Silvestri and Ed Benes deliver a visually explosive supernatural battle between heaven and hell, even if the quieter character moments struggle to carry the same weight. While Jackie Estacado isn't yet deeply nuanced, the mythology, brutal power fantasy, and striking redesign of the Darkness prove that the series still has real life in it. Especially when it fully unleashes its demonic side. Read Full Review

Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez Dec 10, 2025

THE DARKNESS #1 is a visual powerhouse that stumbles a bit when it opens its mouth to speak. It earns a place in your budget if you prioritize top-tier art and 90s nostalgia over nuanced storytelling. If you are looking for a deep, character-driven drama, you might want to look elsewhere, but for a popcorn action flick in comic form, it gets the job done. Read Full Review

Like all true fans , I love a little nostalgia but unfortunately the dialogue at times reminds me more of the bad parts of the 90's. Visually this is an absolute triumph in design and story led structure and with a little more care in the dialogue, this really could be on every pull list. As a nod to my past I'm going to give it a 10 as in the end The Darkness says so.........JM
