  Masterful dialogue. Poetic monologue. A double page spread to inspire a deep grin. And more than a single books share of moments to draw tears from even the coldest of hearts. All these factors have made Lemires conclusion to such a deeply personal epic ever so perfect. While I am sad to say farewell to dear, sweet Gus and his family of endearing misfits, I cant imagine a better send-off. Bravo. Read Full Review

  Sweet Tooth has been one of the best comic books on the racks. Its characters and themes have touched us in ways that we probably wont even realize until years from now.   Regardless of depth of familiarity with the concept or the characters, Lemire places enough care and creativity into this issue to make "Sweet Tooth" #40 complete and compelling. "Sweet Tooth" has enough depth and development within to consider it a fairytale, thanks to the lessons imparted and morality emphasized. I have no doubt readers will set up their back issues to relive the entire tale once more after closing this issue, while those who came late to the story will undoubtedly seek out the entirety. This series has been unique and heralded as such, but "Sweet Tooth" #40 is, quite simply, the best single-issue story in the story of the boy with antlers. Read Full Review

  Like I said, it's hard to say much about the story without giving something away. Even telling what emotions are evoked would probably be too much. I think this ending caps the series off brilliantly and cements Sweet Tooths reputation as an epic series that can hang up there in the same realm as Y: The Last Man. If this issue feels short or rushed at first, it's because Lemire has created a world we wish we could spend more time in, filled with characters we have come to love. Read Full Review

  Lemire nails the landing in this issue, delivering a conclusion that feels completely right and appropriate to all that happened before. Despite the fact that the human race is wiped out in this final chapter, it is still a bright and optimistic view of the future.   One of the best series I've read in a long time, very characteristic of Vertigo's creator-driven offerings. This had a wonderfully developed 40 issue arc with a very clear story progression from beginning to mid-series to ending, with this final issue service as a wonderful epilogue to the series. This is how a last issue should be done. Touching and satisfying, it answered my questions and left me with a sense of closure for the series that I often am left without as other series end.I can't recommend this highly enough, check out the TPBs of this series from the beginning if you've never read this before, you're in for a superb story.   Lemire's art is consistent with the rest of the series, which is to say that it's spot-on in depicting the emotion of his characters and remarkably detailed despite its deceptively simple style. He also employs his watercolor style for the flashback sequences, which works perfectly in conjunction with the aesthetic of the rest of the story, let alone the series as a whole. The page layouts and story pacing are pretty traditional, but it allows Lemire to get the maximum impact from his characters. It's also fun to watch him go completely off the reservation in terms of what we're familiar with; though the aesthetics are familiar, the jump into the future allows Lemire to draw some things that we haven't seen in the series before, so that's a ton of fun as well.   The brief delay between #39 and #40 may make this issue seem to be a bit abrupt at first, but as a bookend, it brings the story of Jeppard and Gus to a very satisfying conclusion. "Sweet Tooth" has been quite a ride from issue #1, a roller coaster of emotion and imagination, and while it is strange to finally see it ending, Lemire played off his cast with a strong sense of closure and dignity.   This is Jeff Lemire's goodbye to Sweet Tooth and its characters in more ways than one. He uses this issue to write a heartfelt farewell to the world that he's created, and in the process, gives readers some amazing insight into how the adventure we've followed has impacted those who lived through them. When so many stories choose instead to leave that to the reader's imaginations, Lemire manages the opposite in a surprisingly satisfying manner that still leaves room for interpretation.
