On art duties this month is Mike Norton from Battlepug fame. Knowing his pedigree, it is no surprise that G-Dog is probably one of the cutter superheroes around. Aside from that, Norton’s art is superb throughout the issue. I’d like to also mention, his designs for the Pet Patrol were awesome. A Kittyhawk toy/plush would be greatly appreciated. Itsa satisfying story, if not an altogether cheerful one. There is no happy endingfor all, though matters play out as perhaps they should. But it makes me sitand take greater notice of Astro City; or, as I sometimes call it, AsTROCity. What I believed to be just another universe of super-heroes has greater depththan I realized. The costumes are merely the window dressing for the narrative. Read Full Review

While it might be easy to dismiss the two-issue story as the ridiculous adventures of a canine hero, writer Kurt Busiek and Mike Norton tap into some wonderful Silver Age magic with the reflective touch of a more modern tale. It was a joy to read, and my only sadness comes from knowing G-Dog's adventure is done. Best-of-the-Week. Read Full Review

Allow me, then, to raise a metaphorical glass of something red and expensive in honour of Messrs Busiek and Norton. This issue concludes a really rather remarkable story and it's to their credit that, neither maudlin nor melodramatic, it manages to have the power that it does. Recommended for anyone who likes dogs and powerfully written stories about heroic redemption. Read Full Review

I don't really care much for dogs. But even dog-haters have souls, and this story is full of soul. And charm. And love. And if you don't cry just a little, you are have no soul. Or are a cat. Why isn't Astro City the biggest hit around? It should be.
