  Harbinger Renegade was one of the books from the Future Of Valiant presentation earlier this year that I was the most eager to read and there is no disappointment here.   With memorable art and powerful colors from Darick Robertson and Diego Rodriguez that meld well with the powerful conflict plotted out by Rafer Roberts, Harbinger Renegade #1 is the superhero team book for young people trying to survive in Trump's America. The comic begins on a down note, and there are no big epiphanies or traditional "Avengers Assemble" type moments except for when Faith swoops in and grabs Jay ,which ends up being the beginning of a hasty retreat. Kris, Jay, and Faith's mentors and adult figures have failed them, and they must try to make sense of world filled with surveillance on "subversive" activities and people like the Consortium, who just want to exploit them and use them as lab rats in a selfish quest for power and glory.   Harbinger Renegade #1 is an exciting start to the new series setting the stage for the return of the Renegades in an entertaining way. The prologue is highly intriguing creating an atmosphere of suspense early on. However, the hunt for new psiots putting Jay and Faith right in the middle is the real driving force this issue. And the conclusion is everything I could've hoped for coming into this issue. Now I can't wait to see what happens next. Read Full Review

  The issue leads off in an interesting way, bringing back an older character from previous Renegade stories, and his introduction is visually stunning. Cast against the backdrop of space, it's hard not to be impressed by the artwork by Valiant. In fact, the entire issue is visually impressive. It manages to hit you hard during it's tragic moments, but helps bring the heart and soul of Jay and his father to life. Overall, Harbinger Renegade #1 is a comic that you shouldn't miss out on, regardless of whether you're familiar with the Valiant Universe or not. This is the perfect place to start. Read Full Review

  Harbinger Renegades #1 is a shining beacon of a beginning that should what happens after you pull something big off. There are consquences and those consequences have long reaching effects that leave impressions on people. Roberts crafts this theme throughout the issue and allow the characters to bathe in those consequences and their feelings. The art was truly superb by each art team, allowing readers to be drawn into the world of Harbinger again. This first issue gave a lot to old fans while been easy and accessible to new readers. Harbinger Renegades # 1 hit all the right moves in this first issue while leaving enough dangling plots out for the series to continue for some time. This book had a little bit of almost everything and it's a solid read. Read Full Review

  Harbinger Renegade #1 is heavy. This is not a team comic that focuses on lighthearted compassion. Each of them are struggling to make sense of their lives as they are, as well as the places they find themselves in. From the looks of the first issue, this will be a dark series, so even the bright moments may still be tinged with shadow. I think its worth a shot if you want more context about the Harbingers, especially if you read Faith, though be prepared to face some of the difficulties of the human experience within these pages.   My rule of thumb lately is that I don't read what I'm not reviewing because I review a lot. That means I've missed a lot of Valiant's titles over the past year. With their new books releasing, though, I'm taking this chance to get caught back up and while they're not all winners in my book, it's good to see that the vast majority of their publishing line is good to great. I still have a hard time thinking of another publisher I can say that about which is a credit to Valiant. Lastly, I'm just really glad to have a Harbinger title to read again and will be looking forward to more Renegades as we approach Harbinger Wars 2. Read Full Review
