Divinity #4

The extra pages and insight from writer Kindt at the end of the story only enhance the overall experience of the entire miniseries. We are assured that there is more Divinity to come this year which is magnificent news. I'm eager to see how this mighty character will interact with the other power players touring around the Valiant Universe. This series established something new, potent and potentially dangerous into their world. I can't wait to see where they take him next. Read Full Review

The art was absolutely fantastic as it shows what happens when a mortal man has a power of a god and the consequences of those actions. This was a great issue, full of stunning visuals and thought provoking commentary on life. A triumph by Valiant once again. Read Full Review

As far as Divinity himself, this issue made him seem by far the most human, even compared to how he was before leaving for outer space. The existential crisis he has through the story initially felt very by the 'sci-fi emotion scene by-the-numbers', but Kindt backs it all up with a powerful, soul crushing coda. Divinity #4is a relatively underwhelming conclusion in comparison to how excellent this series has been since the first issue. It's an enjoyable issue that sheds even more light on Abram's character and brings the current situation to a close. However, more light isn't shed on the origin or nature of Abram's powers, and at times it's perplexing except the fact that some answers are being delayed until next series. Despite hoping for the series to live up to its bold, cosmic potential only to choose to become a caged bird, I still recommend it as an overall gripping, and exciting story. If Kindt was trying to relay some kind of message, to make some kind of point about superheroes or divine power or religion, then it definitely went over my head. This comic is written like any other superhero comic, not like the next Sandman or anything of that nature. But hey, I had a good time, and maybe I'll come back for Divinity II"if I can remember. The art team does some astonishing work this issue on both the personal and epic scale. Watching Divinity respond to his deceased wife's plea to return to death hurts in the right way. Similarly, the panels of Divinity's lush planetoid crashing to the desert floor worked really well to wrap up Divinity's initial tale as a messiah figure. In his absence, paradise immediately falls apart, and it'll be interesting to see whether his return will result in another attempt at harmony, or a change of philosophy involving all out death and destruction. Divinity, overall, was magnificent. The first three issues felt new, fresh and introduced a real player into the VU, but the fourth proved to be a bit of an anchor that dragged the series back from what, arguably, could have been better than The Valiant, which still holds the title of best mini-series (or event, if you want to pull it into that realm) in recent memory, from any publisher. Valiant, at this time has sold me. I'm a lifelong fan. Their style and substance approach over action and flare is, to me, what comics should be about. They show this by doubling the size of a normal issue, pack in some extras, but don't touch the cover price. Bravo, Valiant, bravo! Italia - la squadra unity riesce a liberarsi dalla realtà proiettata nelle loro menti da Divinity, che a sua volta viene ingannato da Livewire e confinato in una cella creata dalla ragazza. Abram è sicuramente un uomo buono, ma è anche un dio sceso in terra e ciò porterà delle ripercussioni x il mondo. Non è finita qui.

Well, I've finally finished this four issue series and it has only taken me seven weeks to do so. Yes, that's how interested and excited I was! What a load of pretentious nonsense. When I heard about Divinty, I thought it sounded really interesting, and as a big fan of Joshua Dysart's Harbinger series, I was keen to try some other Valiant titles. This one failed to live up to the enormous hype. Kindt offers a vacuous and hackneyed tale that tries to pull off the old trick of sounding deep, while actually having nothing new or interesting to say. It also doesn't help that the story is just so poorly told, with a disjointed narrative that results from being underwritten. I suspect that this was part of the smoke and mirrors approach, so th at if the reader was confused by the story they would think it was because it was so deep and they just needed to think more about it. It isn't deep, and I wasn't confused, but the narrative is a mess. The art is actually pretty good. Hairsine's draughtsmanship is strong, with people rendered well, movement being conveyed effectively and layouts that offer solid visual story-telling. In fact, the art is let down by the script, rather than the other way round. One thing I would criticise about the art is the colouring, which suffers from the over-saturation that I've noticed in other Valiant comics. more
