This is a hell of a first issue, flawlessly executed on all fronts, and setting the stage for a meaty, action-packed series. They establish the stakes by showing Bloodshot at his happiest with wife and daughter, juxtaposed with future scenes where he’s about to lose it all, and we’re left to piece together the clues about how we get there from here. This series promises a compelling mix of complex character drama and larger societal themes, with a healthy (possibly unhealthy) dose of cinematic action. I’m tempted to say that the superb art is the icing on the cake, but that simply wouldn’t be fair. The art is so dumbfounding that the icing is another full cake. Valiant seems to be great at writing compelling first issues. Everything a new reader needs to get caught up is presented in a way to catch them up. And they dig their hooks in early, making you wanna run out and buy the next issue immediately. I complain a lot about badly done first issues, but Valiant is batting close to a 1.000 when it comes to first issues. BLOODSHOT SALVATION #1 is no exception. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Read Full Review

The fans have been waiting for more Bloodshot, and we've got it! I'll admit that whenSalvation was announced, I was a bit hesitant towards the idea, as the "child has the powers of their father" had been done plenty of times, and nor always well. I'm very glad that is not the case here, and that my doubts were laid to rest (that's what I get for doubting Valiant right?). I've really enjoyed everything Lemire has done with the character. He's made Bloodshot into more than just a gun pointed at a bad guy. It was just a few years ago that he got the character reins and with this new series, it feels that he has a great idea for where to take the character. There is a definite familial theme in this new run, something that hadn't been looked at before and I think it has legs. Bloodshot: Salvation #1 is another high point for the franchise, and if the ongoing series that follows this debut issue can keep up this level of quality, then the character's renaissance will continue. More than anything it ably demonstrates the confidence and deft handle Jeff Lemire has on the character, and even if the story is a bit predictable, that doesn't make the execution any less compelling and exciting. With a great alternating art team handling different settings, the book looks great as well. Over all a fun character to follow, and as I said it's basically an action movie. Ending on a cliffhanger in a classic comic style.I liked it overall, but telegraphs the plot a bit and the family drama and exposition was a bit slow, but I like that I get an idea that the character is torn about using his powers. Valiant are known for books that push the envelope in some way. Their recent history has set us up for that trend to continue. Therefore, it comes as quite a shock that this book, a possible flagship for the company, resorts to a trope that is instantly recognisable. I am hoping that Lemire's skill will seep through and entice readers past the obvious comparison and into a new take on one of their most popular characters. Read Full Review

Overall, Bloodshot Salvation isn't terrible, it's just not action-packed enough for me to rave about its excellence. I'll need to see a few more issues before I can make a better judgment. Until then, be warned. Read Full Review

If you're invested in Valiant or Bloodshot as a character, then this will be an enjoyable read. For everyone else, it'd still be enjoyable if you decided to read it, but there's no real draw if you don't already have an interest in this world or this character. Read Full Review

The only thing I knew about Bloodshot was that he was one of those creations from Valiant back in the 90's. I faintly remember that Jim Shooter had something to do with Valiant, I think he was the head guru for awhile there. Anyway, I took a chance on this because I like what that Jeff Lemire does, and was pretty surprised how good it was, at least for new readers. Without rehashing everything about his "origin," the reader gets up to speed pretty good. While just about every super-being these days has a "healing factor," (a great deus ex machina) and the "hero that just wants a normal life" story has been done to death, this had some depth t it. I think I will stick around for a few issues.

I know they've been harping on about this being a fantastic jumping on point, but I thoroughly enjoyed it because I've been reading Bloodshot since the 2012 relaunch. That said, AMAZING writing from Jeff Lemire. It's scripted masterfully as your eyes are easily stimulated panel by panel - you get sucked in and addicted to the story. The art is fantastic how they let Lewis LaRosa handle the "now" timeline and Mico throws down on the alternative timeline. Great visuals. Again, I've followed Bloodshot for some time and the cliffhanger at the end takes me back to previous story lines found in Colorado and Bloodshot USA. And for that reason, I'm totally in! I'm assuming it would leave a newcomer scratching their head though which is the only set back I can possibly think of. more

I'm new to Bloodshot, but this seemed like a good jumping on point. Script was OK but the artwork was beautiful, especially the coloring, hyper-realistic images.
