Archer & Armstrong #20

Despite this obvious zaniness, the story is more than coherent. Think of it as a PG-13 rated Preacher in terms of Fred Van Lentes storytelling style. Pere Perezs artwork is sharp and attractive, and David Barons understated color work fits perfectly with the overall style of the book. My friend Xavier over at A&M Comics has been a fan of this series since its re-launch and its easy to see why; Archer & Armstrong is a riotously fun book, and this issue entitled American Wasteland Part One is a perfect jump-on point. Archer & Armstrong has always been outrageous and fun but with the twist of Hollywood, fame and the mysterious behind-the-scenes look of it's biggest sci-fi religion does it takes this book to an all new crazy, fun level. It's no surprise that Van Lente has Archer's “real” parents somewhere part of a strange Hollywood system and the results are full of humor and mystery. All the things that continue to make Archer & Armstrong a entertaining read. This is a great time for new readers to jump on board and a great turning point for long time readers. The results are sure to be as great as they are outrageous and entertaining. Archer & Armstrong is the title that demonstrates Valiant's ability to make quality books more comic book fans should be reading. Read Full Review

This is a great start to the next arc and it was fun. It wasn't full of action, but definitely a new adventure that's outside the last couple arcs but still ties in elements. I still ask if you aren't reading this comic why? It's an awesome adventure with great art to compliment it. Read Full Review

When a member of the church of Retrology asks Armstrong for six hundred thousand dollars, he retorts with, "And they say you're not a real religion." That weighs in as the funniest line in "Archer and Armstrong" #20. Armstrong keeps the story light, while Archer is on a quest, giving "American Wasteland" a strong purpose. Now that the duo have infiltrated the Fameotorium, I'm curious to see where they go, what comes next and who the next deceased celeb will be. Read Full Review

End of the day, I'm giving "Archer & Armstrong #20" a slight pass because of the potential this story arc may ultimately have. As single issues go, though, the series has done a lot better. This isn't the end. At least not yet. Read Full Review
