Nov 06, 2007Criticism aside, this is a beautiful volume of art. While everything surrounding the watercolor works could have been incredible, most of it disappoints to some degree. The commentary is only interesting for the first 10-15 pages, but then grows repetitive. The designs used for the film are great, but there's very little follow-through on how these designs were ultimately incorporated. The interview with Miyazaki it quite insightful, but again limits itself strictly to art. Watercolor Impressions is stellar within its narrow focus, but could have been so much more with relatively little effort. Regardless, fans of Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli or art in general should definitely seek this one out. Read Full Review
