Locust is a new series that brings closer focus to the headspace one would be in after the world stopped working. A pandemic is at the center of it all, but really, this is a story about the little moments between the bigger ones that keep us alive. Covid-19 has soured many on this sort of fiction, but I lapped it up. I usually enjoy the elements of the story showing the collapse of society, and dislike the scrabbling around in the ruins of the world (take note, The Stand). Locust Issue: 1 Publisher: @scoutcomics Writer: @captainmaximum Artist: @alexnieto_art Letterer: @themattr Civilization has ended when a virus quickly spreads from West Africa to the United States, turning most of humanity into giant locusts. As the locusts consume the earth, the uninfected survivors struggle to stay alive. In this newly infected world, we follow Max as he attempts to escape with his mother as the devastating plague quickly consumes New York City. We have all being dealing with this pandemic for over a year now and it’s only natural that new apocalyptic stories come out. However, this type of story is popular and has been done many times over. So there needs to be something that sets a story apart from the others. I believe Locust has that. Yes it takes place in a plagued world, however it’s not zombies that are taking over the world, but giant Locusts. So why and how? This issue is obviously not going to give you the answers right away, but it does lay down the ground work for an intriguing series. The artworks tone is great for this type of story. It’s definitely on its way to being a dark series and I will definitely pick up the next issue!
