Comics Bulletin - Matthew J. Brady
Apr 15, 2008So, for fans of the series, it's a nice installment of the longer story, and a good bit of lost history for Detective Walker. Non-fans won't get too much out of it (other than a gory barbarian tale, if that's your sort of thing), but longtime readers should be happy. Oeming proves himself adept at telling stories from the past, so hopefully he'll get to do so again. For added value, the "letter column" contains a lengthy transcript of a conversation from Bendis' message board, in which he and other comics creators discuss writing comics. It's interesting stuff, but I don't know if it's worth paying for twelve extra pages to read it. But you still get a cool comics story, so I'm not complaining. Read Full Review

Apr 16, 2008Standing on its' own, this issue is a good read, even if it isn't really indicative of the type of story this series typically tells. Plus, I think this seems to explain the use of the "Annual" tag as opposed to putting it in the main book. Once I got over my initial misgivings of being a bit of an extension to "Forever", I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. When the Powers story finally wraps up, I don't know that this issue will be something we can point to as a high point for the book, but in the context of the larger story, it seems this is more of a background story told for the longtime fans that will make the story a bit richer.
