Great stuff, which isn't anything new from Ewing. Çinar has been putting out some really nice art as well, and that continues here. There's only one issue left now and it feels like it's gonna be big after how this went. This mainly felt like some set up for the big confrontation in the next issue, but it was all written so well. All I hope is that Issue 18 delivers, though I'm sure it will.

With the stage set and the groundwork laid, this title bursts past world-building into the first stage of a climax. It's all "effect," with just enough "cause" to verify that it all makes sense. And yet, I'm rating this just shy of greatness. The words and the art are both very good. But they don't fully evoke the potential epic-ness of the latest plot developments. And there are some loose threads that, while compelling on their own, leech focus from the main story.

This issue lacks the complexity of the new Arrako mutants who have come to make X-Men Red such an interesting entry into the Krakoan Age, but the interactions between Storm and Apocalypse present a new twist on how the Genesis War might play out. Ewing is doing everything in his power to elevate Storm as one of the most powerful and important mutants and it’s such an impressive feat to watch unfold. Every time you think Storm couldn’t become a stronger mutant, Ewing has pushed the boundaries further. I’m very much looking forward to seeing how this plays out when Storm and Genesis come face-to-face for their final confrontation.
