Not a whole lot comes to fruition, but Taylor's teasing game is successful: we're already excited for X-MEN RED #8. Aug 22, 2018Time and time again, X-Men: Red proves to be the star of the X-Books ongoing currently. This story has all the heart of the mutants who are truly trying to fight against hate in the most ingenious ways. It's never going to be easy, and there will always be obstacles, but this is what it means to look for peace without falling to violent tactics. Black Nerd Problems - Brandon Lawrence
Aug 23, 2018Jean Grey and her team counters this approach by coming to the immediate aide of Sub-Mariner and his city against the Hulk-level threat (Ok . . . maybe not quite Hulk-level). The best thing about this fight was the work that Nezhno Abidemi puts in. After his tragic backstory last issue, I'm really rooting for Gentle to overcome the mental block holding his power back as Jean Grey suggests. Aug 24, 2018X-Men: Red #7`is the strongest issue to date for this young series. Tom Taylor showed how effective this X-Men team is with how they took out Abomination and saved a plane that was about to crash at the same time. The action created a sense of urgency in the X-Men having to save the day. With how things ended Taylor has set up plenty of story possibilities for X-Men: Red as Jean Grey's team continues to fight an uphill battle to get mutants accepted by the entire world. Bounding Into Comics - Phillip Pratt
Aug 24, 2018Despite my critiques, X-Men Red is currently the best team-book in the franchise. Still, it can stumble over itself. Some of the more underlying themes seem out of place as Taylor attempts to contemporize the narrative. I think it'd be all the better if Taylor handled it closer in the way he does his projects over at DC (check out 'why Lobo shouldn't have Power Ring'). Art is good, colors could be better - the script is ok, could be more focused. This giant roster of X-Men, half of which have been teammates for years with complex connections to each other, feel almost like strangers. Sadly, Gabby, the darling that she is, seems to be the only one allowed to show signs of life. With that said, X-Men Red continues to display promise. Looking forward to seeing it all come together. Sep 10, 2018Tom Taylor is a great writer due in no small part to him being sure to give readers something to enjoy in every issue. This time lots of detailed action sequences that fit the moment of the story, but here that leaves a lot of the heavy lifting to the art team. They absolutely delivered, but it doesn't excuse a somewhat meandering plot. Maybe it's just me getting antsy but I wanted to see a more direct conflict with Nova, instead, we got more mind-controlled British ambassadors hating mutants. I trust Taylor to get things going again, but I'm not going to be a huge fan of another 6 issues of this pace. It needs to pick up. Read Full Review

great art and a continued good story. I read the whole thing without taking any notes, which is usually a good sign. the whole "we will still fight FOR you" line was great. Tom Taylor is great. I can't believe I'm liking an X-Men book so much.

Great issue, solid action and tension. The art and page setup style really complemented the action scenes. My only wish is that the story itself moved a bit faster, most issues have a lot of stuff going on, but we're seven issues in and the main plot is evolving very slowly and still feels miles away from concluding.

The X-Men rise to the challenge and score a solid, much-needed win over Cassandra Nova. It's a perfectly sound script, but it's heavy on the action and it doesn't get as much artistic support as it needs to really thrive. There are spectacular opportunities for big, memorable splashes, and unfortunately, what's put on the page looks mainly like rough-draft placeholders for better-finished visuals. The AiPT review makes excellent points - look closer and the art gets even less impressive, introducing little inconsistencies that undercut the story. It all does wrap up with a fine superhero speech and a killer closing line, though.

I guess the action was creative but at the same time so poorly executed and solved. The Sentinel who for some reason was on top of the plane, falls on top of the plane, who not only stays basically intact but also doesn't even lose altitude apparently? Also damn, those people on the plane sure are forgiving of the mutants who almost killed all of them by attempting to steal a phone. Also, what's up with the phone being used as evidence that the ambassador's mind was taken over by Cassandra? 1: She doesn't say her name, why would anyone trust Jean's word? 2: Who's to say that couldn't have been doctored anyway? THE GOOD: -The action scenes were pretty great. I'm pretty picky when it comes to action scenes in comic books, mainly because I feel they usual devolve into trope-y, bland fillers, but here, even if it was a filler, I thought the action scenes were great and the highlight of the issue. -The art was great. The best art of the series, thus far. It translated the action scenes really, really well. THE BAD: -The characters are pretty bland, Honey Badger offers some pretty good comic relief, but they lack the personality and overall arcs I want to see from an X-Men comic. -The speech at the end was a very cliched, unoriginal, "superhero speech moment," for me.
