This is likely the weakest and inconsequential Secret Empire tie-in throughout the entire line of titles affiliated with the story. Executioner 2.0 is likely a one hit wonder. I do hope you're a Kitty Pryde fan because she's also the main feature of issue #9. At some point, another supposed "main character" needs to get some attention. Read Full Review

Nice issue, though I was a little disappointed that they rounded it up so quickly. I'd hoped it was building to something bigger. Still, some nice work in these last two issues. I'll keep reading.

After the last issue was such a great thriller piece, I was a little let down by this issue. The interesting mystery behind the new X-Cutioner seemed to be phased out into a typical crazy man. There is still a grieving father here, but not one who is still rational. There is a bit of a mystery still in how a villain like him can get his hands on the tech he has, but it was glossed over so quickly it did not have impact. There is a brief moment about responsibility that has been played out in many titles at this point. It works but has less emotional impact at this point. Kitty still shines in her character development as a leader, but others get less care in favor of action. While this is said to be a Secret Empire tie-in, there is very lit tle here to add to the event. The one thing that is consistent in the title is the action. The art really pulls those moments together. While what is here is very solid and good work, there is nothing in this setting it high above to make this a must read. You will be satisfied reading this, but don't expect to be blown away. more

Decent issue. I like Kitty Pryde as a leader, but her sudden ability of super-human strength seemed to come out of nowhere. As with the previous issue, I think a better job could have been done with humanizing the X-Cutioner and his background as a character. Again, while X-Men Gold has been a good series, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere plot-wise at this time. And with Charles Soule's great Astonishing X-Men series arriving on the scene, Gold doesn't seem to be the go-to X-Men series anymore. That's a shame.

Kitty takes down the knockoff X-Cutioner with a little help, and new plot threads get tangled Three Stooges style as Marc Guggenheim rushes to set up not just the next story but the story after the next story. Unfortunately, none of the current threads receive satisfying depth and the narrative tries to skate past Secret Empire a little too casually. Ken Lashley's art is uneven as well, with some pages looking dramatically unfinished. This is yet another Marvel issue with a "rough draft" feel, but in this case I'm entirely unconvinced that more polish could have yielded a great story. Here the creative team slid into neutral before even reaching "meh, it's so okay it's average" territory.
