This title is to Marvel Digital Comics what the hardcovers and paperbacks are to Marvel floppy comics. Some folks may have read this online as the serials were produced, but here, collected in totality for the first time, these stories offer a new set of details about the war raging in the Marvel Universe this summer. The writing in this issue isn't always flashy, but overall War of Kings: Warriors #1 is a solid read with some better-than-solid artwork. While $3.99 is a bit much to ask for a collection of stories that were originally released as part of Marvel's digital comics service, ultimately this issue is a nice way to tide yourself over until the big finale in a few weeks. This issue by far exceeded my admittedly low expectations. I always thought Gladiator was a very underrated character and this issue gives him so much more depth in the first story. The second story revolved around Blastaar's war to take over the Negative Zone. Somehow and someway, Gage made me route for Blastaar, and that's the highest of compliments for a well-written villain.
