Uncanny X-Men #9 is a beautiful looking issue that features Dazzler, a lot of character development, teenagers being written like teenagers, and a conversation that may be less than two pages but just might be the most thought provoking conversation in comics for at least this week. Throw in an interesting ending that ties in a bit to recent issues of All New X-Men and we are left withanother strong entry in the Bendis X-Men run. Read Full Review

Chris Bachalo adds something to this series that is definitely missing when he takes issues off. Bachalo's controlled chaos does wonders for the book, as well, where alleigances are tested and confrontations can explode at any time. Read Full Review

Kudos to the creative team for pushing the pace and creating an issue that puts some of the most powerful mutants on Earth in harm's way. Bendis could have chosen higher-profile characters, but he's bringing in solid and dangerous foes capable of making a huge impact on the X-Men universe. Read Full Review

The only disappointment is Dazzler's part in the story. Everything was going great and I had expectations from her, and then the end came with Mystique up to her games again. I was already getting bored with her antics in All New X-Men and now it's brought into Uncanny where her intentions are still far from clear. She just seems to be that obstacle in both teams paths. If there was some indication of what she was up to I'd like to know, but until then she just feels like a bother because I wanted Dazzler to be that character who finds herself conflicted on who's right. I'm loving what Brian Michael Bendis is doing here and how it has such a different feel from the other X-Men titles. Seeing Cyclops' team and the gathering and training of new mutants along with SHIELD's perspective on the threat they pose is fascinating. Chris Bachalo's art just makes me happy. His colors as well just make everything look so vibrant and cheerful, even when things get a little darker. This title is like a powder keg about to go off. You won't want to miss any of it. While the story is superb, the lackluster artwork continues to keep this book down. While there is a bit too much talking going on in this issue, it remains to be an entertaining read, as long as the reader doesn't focus on the visuals for too long. With a great finish and an interesting roster, this is still a great book that X fans should check out. Read Full Review

This was a brilliant issue, and the best out of the last couple, as well as being one of the best since the start of the series. It did however have a few minor faults, but overall it had plenty of drama, and suspense, as well as being exciting, and entertaining. It was also very fun, with some brilliant dialogue, and developments, and I look forward to seeing what's in store next for these X-Men. Uncanny X-Men #9 had little movement in the story but it did reveal some avenues to explore in the future.Irma changed her hair colour for unexplained reasons, which also slightly hinted at a budding romance. Along with this, came the introduction of a new but classic X-Men villain. It was a steady yet well done issue. I am hoping for the next few issues to pick up the pace, whether it is from a character development side, or the story reaching new grounds. Read Full Review

Chris Bachalo's art isn't always ideally suited to handle the dialogue-heavy sequences. This issue carries a slightly haphazard look because of the numerous inkers. The art is at its best in the later segments as the focus narrows to a small handful of characters. Read Full Review

Those complaints aside, Brian Michael Bendis provides another solid issue. I'm happy to seen Gold Balls sticking around and I'll be curious to see just what role Mystique has to play in the larger picture (and whose side she's really on). Worth a look. Read Full Review

Nine issues in, Uncanny X-Men already feels like it's spinning its wheels. You can only have Cyclops and company stage so many "daring raids" before you remember that the characterization is still paper-thin - there's no emotional fallout for Cyclops about killing Charles Xavier, no panic attacks about him losing control of his powers... and not only that, but this team feels like it's come together so quickly and (Goldball notwithstanding) very, very little second thoughts. Is the outlaw lifestyle really that compelling that Cyclops's sins can go largely unexamined? And can this team actually define itself beyond the usual Bendis-speak? Without something new to set itself apart, Uncanny X-Men isn't quite living up to its name. Read Full Review
