Ultimate X-Men #14

Ultimate X-Men #14 ramps up the pace and the action, albeit with a distinct lack of purpose or direction. Peach Momoko's coming-of-age, slice-of-life actioner is a weirdly odd fit for Shojo Manga lovers, but the title, as presented, practically orders traditional Marvel fans to stay away. Ultimate X-Men #14 shows the best and worst of this series all in one package. Visually, the imaginative artwork that has made this stand out from all other Marvel titles is alive and well. It is the resolution, or lack thereof, when it comes to the overarching Shadow King and Armor narrative that the ball is dropped. By the end all we can hope for is that Maystorm and the rest of the cast move on so we start getting the X-Men series this comic book should be. Read Full Review

The nightmare continues! I can't go any further without giving Peach Momoko her flowers. Her application for the water color style is so versatile, seemingly limitless. There's a few new elements introduced in this issue, setting up the next chapter on this series: the astral plane, the "MY-X" project and a cameo by a certain southern belle. The MY-X project seems to be the end game for the Maker's Council and their intentions for Hi No Kuni. No further details beyond what we already know, human/mutant DNA experimentations. Kageyama continues to torment Hisako in this nightmare induced world, called the Astral Plane by Meister. What's the source for Kageyama's control on Hisako? Her guilt. She denied Tsuabasa in fron of everyone in s chool, which caused a lot of pain for him. The horror peaked in this issue. specifically with Surge's appearance. The kind of visuals that will give you nightmares! Still the best Ultimate title, hands down. more

Not my favorite issue, but there was some solid stuff throughout. A bit of a spoiler coming next, but Rogue showing up on the last page was really interesting, especially considering that Gambit just showed up over in Ultimate Wolverine. Looking forward to this getting followed up on in future issues.

Still worthwhile. If you compare this issue with the rest of Marvel April releases I give it a 9.
