Comics Bulletin - Jason Cornwell
Apr 03, 2003The book isn't exactly delivering the most innovative of stories, as I can see where the story is heading before it gets there, and there's no real surprise twists offered up. However, the book does a pretty effective job of following the path laid out before it, and I must confess that by the end of this issue I found myself quite concerned about the fate of our lead character. John Arcudi has developed a pretty engaging lead and this issue does a solid job of detailing why he would enter into an arrangement where he would end up acting as a punching bag for an enraged Armadillo. The book also does some nice work establishing the rather cutthroat world that Axum has been pulled into, as there is a great little scene where we see the Armadillo realizes that he's being cut loose, and this in turn results in a wonderfully intense final sequence where Axum becomes a ready target that the Armadillo hopes to use to prove that he doesn't deserve to be cast aside.
