It's probably in my top five of the stories to come out of this whole maxiseries. It serves as a good example of an ideal issue for this series, encapsulating the essence of a character in a new story. The previous two issues, Poe and Hux, did similarly well. I had been getting a bit tired of the series after a year but this issue has made me intrigued to see how Taylor will handle the issue actually meant to focus on Kylo. I have high expectations for it and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next. Read Full Review

While it's easy to just write off Snoke in general I'm hopeful that we get a lot more background on him in the years to come and how he figures into everything that has come before. The franchise has always moved backwards in interesting ways to fill the gaps and expand on things which then influence the other works. Tom Taylor does what he can with the character here since you can't make big revelations in the comics at this point and Kirk's artwork is generally solid throughout with a couple of exceptions. I liked seeing some of the things that came from this, especially with how Snoke views Luke, and to see more of the past being put down so as to allow this generation to move forward. I would say on balance this was a decent stab at a Snoke story, in the restraint of probably not being able to make any changes to the character or his backstory. Taylor's script was decent enough, putting in as much insight and background as he was allowed to, and the art by Kirk and Hamscher was solid, nice layouts and clean lines which I always like. Disappointed that we didn't learn much more about Supreme Leader Snoke, even a little more, but did like the fact that maybe he was a bit of a chancer after all. Nothing is learned of Snoke or his apprentice in this issue. It's a side story that didn't need to be told. The visuals are passable, but the colors should have cheated more with the reality of this franchise. If you're hungry for a Star Wars tale, this will only satisfy you for as long as you read it. As much a Kylo Ren comic as it is a Snoke one, but I still really enjoyed the content offered here. It may not have the backstory on Snoke that fans crave, but its a very fulfilling read.

This issue is not bad but not great either. No small bits of Snoake's backstory. But it was an interesting read.
