Spider-Man #18

Spider-Man turns in a pretty good issue with some real minor gripes. It is nice to see that Miles maturation as a person and hero isn't a straight line as he struggles with anger and the extent of his powers. Hopefully, we see more of this quality consistently throughout this arc. Read Full Review

Miles Morales is an endlessly likable character, and it makes this a fairly enjoyable comic. This is the Spider-Man comic I look forward to every month. Not trying to hate on the Amazing title, it's just that I relate a lot more to Miles. He has a nice group of friends that really support him, a strong mom and a Dad that looks out for him. Miles has one of thee best supporting casts in comics today. While his Dad is not in this issue, everything else I mentioned above really comes into play. From a great seen with Goldballs to an emotional seen with his mom. I really enjoyed this issue. Although, it was not anything on a legendary level it was great nonetheless. The earlier issues of this series were diluted with crossovers and Civil War 2. Now with Miles back as the focus of his own comic, everything has gotten better for me as th e reader. more

I am enjoying the slow burn approach to the Miles Morales story. It is also good to see that Miles is only involved with events when it fits his character story. What really seems to sell it is the art, which has been great so far. This issue captures the action, emotion and danger very well. Miles seems to be the Spider-Man that all the girls have an interest in. This issue focuses again on Miles struggle with his anger and his mother's reaction to his role as Spider-Man. There is also a fun moment with supporting character Goldballs. It is all very well done.

This was a good issue. I'm really liking Hammerhead as a nemesis, and it was awesome to see Golfballs go all-out here. The characterization in this series continues to be really strong, and Oscar Bazaldua's art is a great fit.

Goldballs saves the day, Rio gets awesome, Bombshell gets the Wrongest of Ideas. This issue has a lot of character work, which is bread and butter to Brian Michael Bendis. He does it well, but there seems to be a shortage of memorable dialogue. Or perhaps I was distracted by the art, which took a shocking plunge toward disappointment here. All of the relationship content called for sensitive face work, which Oscar Bazaldua sadly did not provide. Perhaps he felt cheated by having to rely on Goldballs for the main action scene? Goldballs can't be fun for a penciller. "Just draw him standing there being brave and slap a buncha circles on the layout and have faith in your colorist." At least Justin Ponsor delivered on those colors; the balls do look nice. more
