Spider-Gwen #22

As excited as I am for Spider-Gwen every month, I gotta say I was really hoping that they'd unveil Gwenom at the end!!! I'm patient though. Jason Latour hasn't let me down with the pacing he puts into Spider-Gwen. I just have to say, if this was already in trade form, I would've inhaed it like the others. Prayers for George Stacy. Overall, Spider-Gwen #22 continues the pace of what has been a fun, interesting, and exciting arc. It must slow down eventually, but with Gwen and the symbiote merging it's not likely to come from Gwen's end. I hope for " and look forward to " Spider-Gwen's supporting cast to step up and develop deeper identities of their own within the book as we see Gwen through this adventure. Everything comes together as "Predators" speeds towards its conclusion. The guest artwork is a bit lacking, but that's a minor gripe on an otherwise superb issue. Read Full Review

Perhaps I'm just a sucker for a good alternate universe Wolverine story but I enjoyed this issue. It would have been a ten except for the terrible guest artist in the middle.

Gwen decides to take the Venom plunge and her dad gets attacked by the Rhino. It'd be easy to say this issue is crippled by the clash between guest artist Jorge Coelho's style and Robbi Rodriguez's. That definitely doesn't help, but I have issues with the pacing and the script that go beyond the visuals. This issue is strictly about "Gwen deciding;" we have to wait (yet) another month for the actual Venomization. Some of the scenes included here, though compelling, are clearly filler. And I feel that the "Rhino attacks Captain Stacy" plot point was badly mangled and comes off far less tense than it could/should.
