S.H.I.E.L.D. #6

Ultimately, anyone who appreciates both the intricacies of the Marvel Universe as well as has a deep appreciation for our own history should feel right at home in this book. While this issue does miss the Hickman touch of added prose pages and design layouts, it's still a great way to end the first part of the story with a bang. Watching intense historical figures get reshaped into characters and heroes/villains within the Marvel Universe has been incredibly entertaining, and their ties to one of the most important organizations in the Marvel Universe is what makes this comic so special to follow. It's going to be quite some time before the creative team returns to pick up this story. Even the recently solicited S.H.I.E.L.D.: Infinity is merely a collection of side-stories. But if this long hiatus allows the creators to deliver a tale as epic, engrossing, and painstakingly rendered as Vol. 1, the wait will be well worth it. Read Full Review

Its certainly an ambitious comic, with a lot of grand, far-reaching ideas. Its not clear what place this title will end up having in the Marvel canon, but regardless, a lot of great sci-fi fun. Read Full Review

In all my years of collecting SHIELD is unlike anything Marvel has ever undertaken before and I must commend the Editorial staff for obviously giving Jonathan Hickman a free hand in creating this title. It is one of the few comics that I look forward to month after month. Read Full Review

Hickman has built this comic more on science, and the shoulders of the titans of science, rather than actual character development. As we close on this first volume, there are far more questions to be asked than have been answered, and not in a grand LOST way. For the few moments where Stark and Richards have shown great depth, we are then served a very thin lead in Leonid and the aforementioned titans are more often used as bookmarks instead of deep studies. I like this comic, it has plenty going for it, but it's not capitalising on the promise it showed in that first issue. Read Full Review

Hickman somehow ends SHIELD Vol 1 with a bang while also perfectly setting up vol 2. Who would have ever thought that a comic book called SHIELD would be about a war between Issac Newton and Leonardo Da Vinci with Michaelangelo pulling the strings

This is turning into a cool story. Unfortunately it started off a little too incoherent and convoluted. And the time jumps are a bit hard to follow. But Hickman's ideas are paying off and we're starting to get a better sense of how it all fits together.
