She-Hulk #14

Rowells relations with Jen have been pretty fun so far. The weird convolutions in her life are given plenty of time and space to develop. Rowell may be giving some pretty heavy foreshadowing to major events throughout her time with Jen, but its still pretty satisfying seeing things play out when they finally hit page and panel. To her credit, Rowell manages to hammer in that inevitability with a bit of style and intrigue. Still--it WOULD be kind of nice to get a general feel of the unpredictability of the chaos in Jens life every once in a while. Read Full Review

She-Hulk #14 picks up the pace slightly in She-Hulk's will they/ won't they relationship with Scoundrel until she finds out what his thievery has led to. The art team does a fine job with what little they have to work with, and the emotional beats are strong, but as the penultimate issue in the series, it falls short of building momentum for the finale. OMG, I really loved this issue. Damn SCOUNDREL is so annoyingly charming but JACK OF HEARTS is just sooooooooo heartachingly emotional. Though, it's clear who of the two is the better choice.

Well, I love this. The slow burn pays off with a thoroughly engaging step forward in Jen's love triangle…before superhero business spoils everything. How perfectly appropriate for a She-Hulk comic. There are plenty of superheroes who get to be romantic, here and there, but few superhero storytellers go all-in on making their stories romances. Rainbow Rowell makes it look deceptively easy, conveying important emotional developments with just the right level of subtlety. Andrés Genolet makes a powerful partner on the art side of things. He has a reliable talent for conveying important character information through expressions and posture. Plus--and this is a big reason I'd put him forward as a champion of minimalist art--he always de livers exactly enough background detail to ground the characters and make them feel like they're inhabiting real spaces. more

I hate how charming Scoundrel can be at times. I miss Jack and, being a sucker for a good romance, I hope they work things out soon. I really like the two of them together. What has me a little worried about this series is the fact that this title has been missing for two rounds of solicitations and we have no announcement(s) regarding the future of the series. I really hope they don't pull a Black Widow and suddenly tell us on the last page that the series is ending. What makes me even more paranoid is the fact that said Black Widow series (which you should totally read if you haven't, it's great; it's from Kelly Thompson and Elena Casagrande) ended on Issue 15, and Issue 15 of this series is the last one that's been solicited at the time of this writing. more
