    ComicBook.com - David Harth

The Sentry is a character that has been very hit or miss over the years, so there was a chance that this issue could have sunk, even with Jenkins writing it. However, that wasn’t the case at all. This is a perfect comic in every way, a fantastic synthesis of art and story. Marvel doesn’t like to do prestige comics very much, but this book feels like a DC prestige superhero book in a way that Marvel stories usually don’t. This was an amazing reading experience. AIPT - David Brooke

The Sentry #1 feels like a return to what made the character compelling in the first place. Paul Jenkins strips away spectacle and focuses on the fragile mind of Bob Reynolds, exploring guilt, loneliness, and the terrifying weight of power. Christian Rosado and Matt Milla reinforce that mood with shadowy visuals that make every page feel haunted by the Void. The result is a comic that lingers in the reader’s mind long after the final page. It is not just about superhero action, it is about the psychological toll of believing you may be the greatest threat in the room. If the rest of the miniseries holds this level of emotional depth, Marvel may have one of the most compelling Sentry stories ever told. Read Full Review

Jenkins, Rosado, and Milla do an amazing opening issue with Sentry #1. You feel both the depth of the darkness within Bob but also sympathy for what he is dealing with. It’s rare to find a comic where the synchronization between the writing and the art is so perfect, but Sentry #1 is one of the best examples you’ll find out in the world now. This issue literally sent a chill down my spine as I read it, and I loved it. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker

    Mar 18, 2026

Sentry (2026) Issue 1 brings back a hero burdened by his own darkness. The Sentry has the possibility of being the greatest, brightest hero, but he is weighted down and suffocated by the Void and his own mental illness. No one knows the story of the Sentry better than Jenkins, and reuniting the duo means that the true embodiment of Robert Reynolds is back. Read Full Review

    Fanlight Zone - Ken M.

Robert Reynolds returns with an introspective look at life and loss in this debut chapter. Jenkins pens a through examination of his thoughts with the writing. The art team brings out the emotional gravity on each page. In dealing with the Sentry, nothing is ever easy. Jenkins’ return looks to set forth a new course that long time fans have been waiting for. Read Full Review

Super Hero Hype - Matt Morrison

Those who have been fans of The Sentry since the beginning will love this new series. Those who haven’t will get a chance to see why this character became so beloved after the buzz around his gimmicks died down. This is a thoughtful deconstruction of the superhero genre that is well worth reading. Read Full Review

    Comic Crusaders - Al Mega

    Mar 18, 2026

Sentry #1 is a strong return because it remembers the most important thing about this character: the power is impressive, but the pain is what makes him matter. This is moody, character-driven, uneasy in all the right ways, and loaded with the kind of emotional dread that makes you want the next issue immediately. Marvel did not just bring Sentry back. They brought back the tragedy too. And that is why this one works. Read Full Review

If your pull list has room for a slow-burn, introspective tragedy about a hero who might already be too compromised to save anyone, this earns a slot, but if you want clean on-ramps and big, decisive plot swings out of a #1, your money is probably better spent elsewhere. Read Full Review

If you like your comics “easy” and paint-by-numbers, this is not the book for you. But if you want something that is off the beaten path, something that will make you think and maybe even feel, then give The Sentry a shot. Read Full Review
