Secret Avengers #9

Secret Avengers remains an entertaining book with a very different story to tell, and for that reason alone (well that and the 8 great previous issues), Im willing to go along on this journey, at least for a little while. Not everything in this issue makes sense, but there are a couple of amazing, totally earned reveals that get me very, very hyped for what this series does next, and sometimes a filler issue is just a filler issue, even if it IS an entertaining one. This would also be a pretty great jumping on point as it explains a lot of the bigger concepts this book deals with as well as recapping some of its history, so if youve been meaning to check it out, by all means do so! My one big problem with this book is that while I like Guice and Ross separately, I feel that its becoming jarring for fans of the book when going back and forth between the two. I'd rather that Marvel would split them for arcs instead of different issues of the same arc. Spencer is crafting a great book here- we have a classic AIM vs. SHIELD fight, but we have a new spin – AIM has gathered itself public and political capital along with a cast of meta human operatives who are dangerous in their own right, as well as an internal civil war between Maria Hill and Daisy Johnson. This feels the end of the first season-ish – the players seem finally set, for the next larger arc/chapter to begin. Read Full Review

There are so many Avengers-branded books that I haven't been reading "Secret Avengers" regularly, but after this issue I'm going to have to come back next month. If they're this good even for quieter issues like this one, maybe I've been missing out. Read Full Review

There are some nice moments in this issue that prove that this series still has plenty in store, yet they don't provide for much materials for this moment. Still, it's a nice issue with a great consistent tone and some overly beautiful colorization from Matthew Wilson. Read Full Review

In the Marvel's description for the issue, it says Daisy vs Maria, for everything. Well they don't exactly fight or anything and all this issue did was set up a fight for the future. Anyways, this issue was more boring than usual but still extremely interesting
