Old Man Logan #47

Old Man Logan #47 could have been a cliche affair and, while it still definitely has elements to it that could considered as such, Ed Brisson throws in a twist on the formula that makes the whole thing shine a little bit more, and the cliffhanger ending sets up the next story arc wonderfully. These two elements, along with improved art, make this one into something special. Subverting a formula while still giving readers something satisfying isnt always easy (ask Rian Johnson), but Brisson and company pull it off here and make it look effortless. While there have been flashes of a great series in recent arcs, Old Man Logan stopped being an Old Man Logan comic quite a while ago. Instead this has become a journey through the past of Wolverine, which isn't exactly what this book was supposed to be. Read Full Review

The wrap-up of OML's little Alpha Flight adventure is perfectly satisfying but also, unfortunately, perfectly skippable. Puck vectors Logan into his next arc in a way that emphasizes this one's inconsequentiality. The climax of the story is contrived so that the only option is OML absorbing a punishing amount of damage; this sits poorly with the long-term theme that his healing factor can't handle shenanigans like that anymore. The art for the human characters has a simple strength, but the plant monster never really seems to be moving.
