New Avengers #22

The art component of this issue is executed brilliantly by Mike Deodato and Will Conrad. Deodato is in the zone with these characters and you pretty much know when you see his name on the cover you are going to get an issue with consistently solid pencils. Issue #22 features some of the best work I have seen from Deodato in recent months and his use of shadows in some of the later layouts is excellent. I personally do not like the expression, but there are multiple pages in this comic that were jaw-droppers. This story is winding down in preparation for the Avengers to get into a big ol' tussle with the X-Men, but there looks to be a big, explosive finale coming to an overall solid arc. Read Full Review

Some fairly interesting turns teases a potentially exciting finale for the next month, and in this regards New Avengers #22 succeeds in roping the reader effectively for the next installment. Still, the next issue has a tall order if it aims to succeed in delivering a satisfying conclusion. However, Mike Deodato and Will Conrad keep things visually interesting for the most part . While some facial structures become uneven at a distance, the artists do their best to provide emotional context to a script that lacks it. Unfortunately, much of those moments are negated by the utterly ridiculous costuming of the characters involved. I get that they are hot off a battleground, but watching Mockingbird and Wolverine interrogate ferociously with torn costumes revealing their assets is distracting and silly. It's kind of like that time Batman had sex with Talia al Ghul but left his cowl on – go big or go home. If your shirt is off, take the damn mask off too. Read Full Review

This wasn’t the worst issue but it all just seems so repetitive. Bendis has stayed too long on the Avengers titles of comics
