Bendis & Marquez are one of the top creative pairings in comics and they build on their previous work very well in this issue. This comic has a ton of heart, is fun to read, and features great character moments balanced with shocking reveals that will have you craving the next issue. Aside from the fact that I am completely ecstatic about the return of Miles' own series but what would keep any Marvel fan continuing to read this series is the sheer shock and awe that washed over me and will wash over you all too. This is definitely an easy entry point for the character that doesn't require prior knowledge with exposition dialogue that never feels heavy-handed which is always the best kind that catches you up on what you need to know straight away. Read Full Review

My one real concern with the direction of this new series is how much it lingers on Peter Parker himself. Peter's influence can be a storytelling boon, as in the scene where Miles reconnects with Mary Jane. But anyone who read USM #200 knows that the actual, physical return of Peter is being teased. This issue deals fairly heavily with that development and related threads. As much as Bendis has done to establish Miles as a worthy heir to the Spider-Man mantle, the worst thing this book could do is force him to play second fiddle to Peter. Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #1 is a great debut. The storylines are intriguing, the character work is solid, the writing is strong, and the artwork is even stronger. The issue is not very good at bringing in new audiences as it has tons of backstory and continuity built up and included therein but old and returning fans will certainly find a true and satisfying experience. There's a <em>huge</em> reveal at the end of the issue which leads me to think we're not quite done with the clones that we visited about 100 issues ago in the Ultimate Spider-Timeline. It seems that Peter Parker is making a comeback in every form of Spidey entertainment this month. The conclusion of this issue was very surprising now that Peter Parker is resurrected from the dead. I'm interested in continuing the series to see how he was brought back to life and what role he will play in the story. Is it the real Peter Parker? Will he join Miles in fighting crime? I really wanted to rate this comic higher but as a new reader of spider-man and being fairly new to comics I just can't. This really does a good job of getting my interest for continuing the series however there are several events that are mentioned and hardly explained. If you are new to the comic scene like me there will be several references that will leave you largely confused or wanting more information due to the poor explanations. Other than that the art and writing both seem to be great and I look forward to more of this series.
