Overall, Marvel Voices: Wakanda Forever is an excellent set of stories that showcases the ingenuity of world building in the Black Panther mythos. The stories by the different creators are exciting. As with any anthology, the quality of stories vary, but there isnt a weak chapter in the bunch. The art is just fantastic, from the beautiful, classic style by Martinez and Harris to the more modern aesthetics of Akande and Williams. Each story has something to say, about the character it spotlights, about culture, about truth in the ways we live. Its an important book that reinforces the need for diverse storytellers and characters that can inspire any one of us, no matter our race or creed. Its also a bargain at $5.99 for a whopping fifty pages (without ads), and features some great extras, including an interviews with Martinez and journalist Evan Narcisse, writer of Black Panther: Wakanda Atlas, a fact-filled tome all about the countrys fictional and literary history. A mish-mash of stories that lack substance, 'Marvel's Voices: Wakanda Forever' #1 fails to live up to the promise of Wakanda. Stories are either too fragmentary or too underdeveloped to create lasting impressions of characters, making this an uneventful read. Read Full Review

The African diaspora does not need Marvel to continuously throw fuel on that fire. I don't give a damn how dope Marcus Williams or Dee Cunniffe's pencil work is of these female warriors, I'll be happy to see more of it when there's a visible balance. Heroism should not be designated to a gender role, but that's all that this issue of Marvel Voices screams. Read Full Review

8 pages is a tough length to work with, and the various strips in this anthology display a lot of the common pitfalls: not doing enough, trying to do too much, doing the right amount but in a flawed way. But the damage is rarely fatal, and there are some gems here. The Shuri strip in particular is awesome in concept, words, and art.
